    Anyone gone back to acoustic?

I ride my mechanical bikes about a third of the time or about a quarter of my total mileage. I enjoy both, but am more confident on the e-bike so if I'm unsure about being able to do a ride and enjoy it, I take the e-bike. For example, I did some recent gravel riding in a place where I didn't...

    Why so few Trek owners?

I dont't think the bike industry analogizes perfectly with the car industry, but there are probably some parallels. I see Trek as something like Toyota and Giant as maybe Hyundai. Pedego is maybe Cadillac, but Cadillac from say the sixties. Specialized would be Honda, a little more...

    Boomer and balance

I doubt that your height/body proportions have much to do with it. Have you been riding non e-bikes recently? If so, have you had any falls riding regular bikes? If you have, then my guess is that the bike might not be the issue. We're more or less the same age. I've noticed that my sense...

    Why so few Trek owners?

I'm another Trek owner, Crossrip+ bought used from another member here. I've been very happy with it so far, 1,000 plus miles in 3 months. Once in a while, there are very good bikes that just don't find a market. I suspect the Crossrip+ may be one of those. Trek mostly marketed it as a...

What’s the fastest you’ve been on your Trek ebike?

42 mph according to the Bosch Purion, which may be a mile or two faster than the actual speed. Trek Crossrip + on a hill on a city street. Bike was quite stable, but I didn't feel all that safe, just because I wouldn't have wanted to have to stop or turn. I've gone 54 mph or so on a non-Ebike...

2020 : Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

It's pretty common here to have people leaving chalk signs on the path about riding harder, birthday greetings, etc. About a week ago, several black lives matter chalk signs appeared every quarter mile or so on our path (probably a dozen or so), some list the names of individuals who died...

    Ebike Marketing Strategy

I thought their second technique, go downhill at an angle while crossing the road to gather speed, then turn and head uphill, was even more dangerous. I think most of us like e-bikes, because we don't have to resort to tricks like these. I did notice that theirfixed gear gear ratio is quite...

    Saddle

I'm following this closely. My Trek Crossrip Plus came with a Bontrager Montrose Comp saddle. At the twenty plus mile mark, my left sitbone would begin to hurt and, in turn, My left lower back would get stiff. I liked the shape of the seat and it was really good with respect to numbness...

    Best ebike repair stand

Believe it or not, I've taken to putting my bike rack on the back of my car and using that as a "stand" for cleaning my chain. It works surprisingly well.

    Ebike Marketing Strategy

It just looks like flx has put a huge amount of money into Facebook and Youtube ads. I'm only on one side of their demographic: I look at e-bike stuff regularly online, but I'm way older than their market. I can't tell much about the quality of the design. They seem to be targeting city...

If it's not an electric touring bike, then why does it appear to have a motor?

    Bike Boom Redux

I have an e-bike and have kept three traditional bikes. I'm in my 60's and can't ride as far or as fast on a traditional bike as I once did, but I still enjoy them for rides under 20 miles with up to moderate climbs (we happen to live in a fairly flat area). Still, it's nice to remind myself...

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

hub drive with 123 wh battery built into the hub. They're claiming a range of 55 miles in Eco. It'll be interesting to see how they got that much range out of a battery that small in a hub motor. There's no mention of gearing. It seems to be more or less the Copenhagen Wheel on a carbon...

Best strategy for v. steep hill

Ah, that's a big difference. A 10% grade requires around 600 watts of power to go 12 mph. Your bike likely won't do that. If you're willing to go really slow and in your lowest gear, it might, but you're probably looking at being able to walk up the hill faster.

Best strategy for v. steep hill

I think you might have right numbers, but wrong decimal place. I get 6% grade 170/2640 , but that assumes that the slope on the hill is uniform. http://theclimbingcyclist.com/gradients-and-cycling-how-much-harder-are-steeper-climbs/ 136 watts should be enough to climb a 5 percent grade at...

Hello from an ebike rider’s paradise, Asheville, NC

If you want to stay with the Rad Mini, I suspect going to a 42 tooth front chain ring would probably help a lot even with the motor that's on the bike. It's probably inexpensive and not hard to do or get done. I'm not sure how it'll affect your top speed. That said, their web page says 750 watt...
