Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

I'm curious, do you west coast bikers near the ocean have trouble with salt air corrosion on the exposed metal parts of your bikes?

I grew up around salt water on the east coast and salt air took it's toll on most exposed metal. It was a constant problem aboard my boat on brass, chrome and even some stainless steel alloys with prolonged exposure. If I left my old Schwinn fixie outdoors, rust would form on some parts after just days. Riding near the surf on wet sand would cause major issues unless the bike was hosed off thoroughly with fresh water afterward. The problem didn't exist just a few miles inland, away from the water. I don't know why it would be any different on the west coast.

I realize most bikes today use Stainless steel, but there are many flavors, and some are more corrosion resistant than others. Do you take any particular precautions?

I hope they get your beaches sorted out. Dredging is a temporary solution. Artificial reefs can help, but the surfers will go ballistic.

After the October storm three years ago, one of our south facing beaches had three feet of sand loss. They dredged it back over the winter. That reminds me, it's time to start doing my beach walks again.

As for dogs on beaches, the National Seashore allows them year round, subject to local ordinance. Most towns ban them mid-May until Labor Day.

Oh yes, bikes and everything else. Some of my tools were rusted in a week after unpacking, and we're 0.6 mi from the beach.

Bike chains seem especially susceptible. Hard to imagine that some of the totally rusted chains you see out and about here can still bend. The nickel plated SRAMs I've been using lately seem to fare better.

Yes, I rinse or wipe the bikes after close encounters with pounding surf — especially the drivetrains. No special precautions between rides other than keeping them garaged.

My Specialized mid-drive must use the good stuff, cuz it's showing very little corrosion after 2 years here. At half the price, the hub-drive showed a lot more at 2 years, but you still have to get close to see it at 4 years.

I really like the new look now, and love the new rear traction. That's just where the mechanic decided to put the forward rack attachment. I'll try the seat tube today.
I'm so glad you've made the conversion! Some tips and questions:
  • You can actually remove the Quick Rack for short rides. It takes seconds (but watch your hands when locking the rear attachments on reattaching not to pinch your skin!) I was travelling light yesterday so why should I add extra weight to my Fearless?
  • Pay the attention to the tyre pressure. Wolf Tooth Tire Pressure Calculator will ensure the proper inflation for absolutely smooth rides!
  • Do you need the tail-light? I attach my Lezyne to the back of the saddle bag (but my saddle bag is located more on the horizontal).
I still have no good idea how to attach any tail-light to the naked bike to make it perfect. Nobody has ever explained what tail-light and how the lamp could be attached to a Specialized saddle.

Many thanks for all your help on this project! I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger, too. I'll respond later today in the Vado SL 1 thread.
