Amazon Stops Selling Illegal eMotos in CA

@Darth_Vado,
You might not know this. In order to do wheelies they need to swap the brake levers. Then they can modulate the throttle with one hand and the rear brake with the other. But if it is hydraulic, then the reservoirs are upside down. It will work at first - until it suddenly doesn't.

Because they're stupid and don't know how to bleed brakes. There's no need to turn them upside down.
All you need to do is swap the hoses and do minor top bleed! One kid in So Cal had it happen while riding with a regular bike helmet and a car's wheel ran over his head. The parents had to identify the body of their kid who thought an eMoto was cool.

Contemplation of the curb after it throttles on its own! I work on all legal bikes. I just restored a FS MTB Stumpjumper. Yesterday I assembled an all steel eBike from India. The cranks were cast iron and as heavy as a frying pan. I will be replacing the twist throttle soon with a push in type thumb throttle. Twist throttles are insanity. If you are walking the bike and bump it, it will go flying into the air as the throttle gets twisted more as it rises. If the grip on a twist is against the throttle it will stay on. Carma works as well as, and in conjunction with the Darwin Awards.

I've been using a (half ) twist throttle from day one. Much easier to modulate, especially over rough terrain.
But if you're not smarter than one... then yes, please, please don't use one. 🙃

You've got it wrong @PedalUma

The throttle rolls off by rolling your wrist over the top with your palm rolling forward.

When a motorcycle or ebike with a twist throttle rises up in front of you, to stand on its back wheel, the throttle rolls Off, not On.

The throttle only rolls off if you lose your grip and your fingers roll from the throttle towards you.

Try it.
Hold the rear brake on a bicycle and pull it up onto its rear wheel while holding the throttle steady, and the bike rotates not the rider.

The throttle will be rolling off as the bike stands up.

If you ever go on group rides with a bunch of people renting e-bikes you will eventually see this happen live in real time. It can be very exciting and often involves a visit from EMTs.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I've had it happen more than a few times, but it's worse on a motorcycle with Way more power, and a throttle with no delay.

If you give it too much throttle, and the bike pulls away from you, the throttle gets rolled On as you lose your grip and let go.

It happen to a lady in my motorcycle training course.
She somehow managed to climb over a curb at a Really shallow angle.
I don't know how she didn't fall over when she hit the curb sideways.
She went another 10-20 feet before crashing on the grass.

EMT was called and she was taken away. (She was fine. The call to EMS was mandatory.)

I saw a guy smash into a glass doorway like this. As he instinctively held on the bike went higher and forward.

OK, I watched the video (starting at 6:20) and something different happened there, with the throttle activating on its own.

And BTW, he had plenty of time to grab the bars and hit the brakes when it happened.

I know that a hub motor will go to full throttle if the throttle loses its ground connection.
Any type of throttle on a hub bike can do this.
I'm pretty sure that's why hub bikes have brake switches?

If a mid-drive bike loses ground on the throttle, the throttle goes to zero power.

The Surron may have had the throttle stick open in a mechanical way, but I'm thinking it was a "digital software" type issue.

(Some systems combine brake data with throttle data on the same wire, creating a "digital failure" possibility.
Adding a Domino twist throttle to some systems creates a "brake error" code.)

I can easily launch my ebike up and away from me in a microsecond if I wanted to, especially if I used a typical Surron throttle that goes from Zero to Full throttle in about 3° of rotation.

Surron riders want an on/off switch for a throttle.

Looks like being smarter than a twist throttle may be beyond the capabilities of some.

Lesson 1: Get in the habit of always tapping down to PAS 0 whenever you dismount the bike.
Lesson 2: Get in the habit of holding one finger on the brake lever whenever you walk the bike which disables the motor.
You only need to do one to be safe.. Do both, and you are officially smarter than the throttle.
These are very simple and easy to do and well worth it for the advantages of a twist throttle.

I decided to disable that on my BBS02B, so my throttle is always active.
My throttle for the hub drive works in PAS 0 as well, so I'm used to it.

I use it to "walk" my ebike into the 🏠

So my ebike will go 32 kph in PAS 0 if ~50 watts will make that happen. 😁
