One thing I won't certainly understand is a guy riding a road bike in regular clothes, helmetless or in a baseball hat.
The comic has been right about the cleats! While wearing cleated shoes is almost mandatory on a road bike, and a matter of style on a gravel bike, that "clac, clac, clac" when these cyclists walk inside a convenience store is indeed funny!

I so love it. I have been feeding crows I see on rides. Also putting some cat food on a 4x4 post. Now they recognize me. One placed a chromed Nexus/Alfine acorn nut on that post as a gift. How could they know, a bike part? Someone said that an analysis of calls repeated a unique pattern whenever one regular bike commuter passed. They had named him. The ring tailed lemurs are the best. I get six caws.

I forgot I remembered
You know you're having a senior moment when you hear these words pass your lips.
Dust with a chance of falling wallboard was the indoor forecast as the workmen started repiping our house yesterday morning. So I quickly stuffed my sunglasses in the nearest drawer.
Hours later, my supervision no longer needed, I was getting ready for a much-needed ride.
"Honey, have you seen my sunglasses? I've been looking all over."
"Nope, haven't seen 'em."
"Oh, never mind. I just remembered where I put them."
Just then the foreman grabbed me to discuss a potentially costly discovery inside a wall. And 30 minutes later, I was back to that ride.
"Honey, have you seen my sunglasses?"
"I thought you found them."
"Oh yeah, I forgot I remembered."

Just had our home repiped with thicker L-class copper to prevent the costly leaks more and more of our neighbors are getting with the neighborhood's original M-class copper piping from the late 1980s.
Many holes in the walls and ceilings, as you'd imagine, but fewer than I expected.
To keep things as clean as possible, the workers draped off everything with yards and yards and yards of totally unrecyclable plastic film. The whole house and garage. Twice — once for the repiping and then again today with all new plastic for the drywall repairs.
So all the good karma we've been accumulating over 40 years of doing our best to avoid, reuse, and recycle plastics gone in 2 days!
Clearly, resistance is futile. We will be assimilated.

FWIW, less than 10% of plastics actually get recycled. Most plastic isn't recycled due to high sorting costs, contamination, technical limitations, and the lower cost of producing new plastic. China has had a ban on importing foreign wastes, including plastics, since 2018.

What is scary to me is that they need to solder the copper pipes inside your walls with a torch. What could go wrong?

the good news is, take a grinder to said pipes, turn the water back on, and problem solved!
Of course then you'll have to solder the pipes again, this could become Sisyphean...

They may solder new pipes but they may use Sharkbite connectors instead, and especially for repairs. If you don't know about them check them out. They can be a lifesaver.

I looked it up. When I did it I made a heat shield from double walled (with an air gap) large coffee cans. It was to install a valve for an icemaker line. I also cut a gap in the top and bottom so it fit around the pipe.
