Currently in the French Pyrénées again, just back from a week in London. I have to say that nobody in UK seems happy at all. No worker is happy with their work or their coworkers or their customers. Only people you see who are cheery are drinking beer in pubs. However, the French, at least in the countryside, are courteous and seem to be happy in their work or if not with their work at least with their workmates. Not what I would've expected, and we all have problems, but life is just more endurable when people are more courteous to each other in this chickenwire canoe.

Everyone I know is happy because they either are retired or are ending cushy civil service jobs with fat pensions.

The part about cyclists starts at 4:46, but the earlier part about Hells Angel-style bikers is even funnier.

Clearly a lot he doesn't understand about cycling — especially the reality of air resistance and the value of functional clothing for some kinds of riding. But he does point out a reason to ride in lycra I hadn't thought of: If you ride in regular clothes, people might think you had a DUI.
