I'm Chris from Cape Cod, and a first time e-bike owner. I started riding bikes at age 5 and really never stopped. I also spent many years racing road bikes at the national level. Unfortunately, medical issues prevent me from riding a drop bar road bike without pain, so I bought my first e-bike recently, a Cannondale Tesoro Neo X Speed. I've been discovering the rail trails and back roads here, slowly increasing my ride distance. I've had the Cannondale shop order up the parts to enable the dual battery setup, which should be installed soon.

Here are a couple of pictures from one of my rides. This is Skaket Beach in Orleans. It is 33 miles round trip.

Welcome aboard!

Looking forward to more photos of Cape Cod. (Kind of partial to beaches myself.) My 3 favorite forum threads are the ones for sharing ride photos.

I used to get out your way to ride the Cape Cod Trail, Shining Sea Trail, Cape Cod Canal MUP's and the dune trails at Cape Cod National Seashore. Back in 2022, there was a crackdown on e-bikes using these trails. When I checked out the newly rebuilt trailhead in Dennis, I was asked to leave by a park ranger. I haven't been back since.

Back then, Mass. was not an e-bike friendly state. Hopefully, things have loosened up a bit.

I always get a kick out of the signs at the Cape Cod National Seashore beaches:

Sure doesn't give swimmers a warm fuzzy feeling!

In any case, welcome to the forum and by all means, post pics of your rides!

An excellent choice! Welcome to the Forums!
Thanks. I really wanted a flat bar road bike like the Santa Cruz Skitch, but I wasn't about to spend that kind of cash on my first ride. I wanted to try something first at a price that I could afford to lose money on if I dumped it. Mike's Bikes was blowing them out for $2,149 so I went with it. I usually build my own bikes, but this time I wanted one off the shelf with a warranty. I know that the Gen4 motor was older technology, but I'm getting the mods done now so that I don't have to mess with it down the road.

I haven't gotten close enough to a National Seashore beach (next trip) to see a Ranger, but every other trail that I ride, I haven't had a single issue. I back down to bicycle speed wherever it makes sense to. My horn is pretty loud. It's also a Class 3 so I'm always pedaling, so I look more like an MTB than an illegal e-bike.

We have an over the top progressive governor who is handing out e-bike credits for low income people like candy. That doesn't make the Cape e-bike friendly, but there are plenty of them here.

The sharks come here because the Powers That Be refuse to cull the seal herd. There's over 50,000 in Chatham alone. There's only so many sharks in the sea. They can't keep up with the population. Most of the beaches on the mid cape where I live don't have shark issues because the water is too shallow for sharks and seals. Before I go into the water at the National Seashore, I check my shark tracker, and look for seals. If I get a hit on the tracker, or I see seals in the water, I stay out.

We don't get a lot of sharks here in coastal SoCal, but you can get snatched right off the beach during kraken season. There was a Baywatch episode about it.

A relative had 3 cottages in Eastham that we would go to every summer for a week growing up in So. VT.. Always brought my bike and rode all over. Way before e though! Last time I was on the Cape was 20yrs ago and even then the traffic had gotten bad so it's good they are putting in bike infrastructure.

I like my clams freshly poached. With butter, lemon, and parsley. Maybe steamed in a little white wine with some fennel root. And with sourdough toast to dip into the nectar after a ride.

The outer Cape does have additional traffic challenges in the high season due to the Orleans rotary (roundabout) and all of the stop lights.

Everybody that biatches about the traffic on the Cape, I remind them what it's like driving the Mass Pike. It's a horror show during daylight hours, all day, every day, and you get the privilege of paying for it. On the Cape, the snowbirds are starting to come back now, so the traffic is picking up. However, it only gets crazy here from July 4th until the middle of August, when the kids go back to school. I know most of the back roads and avoid Rt. 28 as much as possible. The bridges get backed up at typical vacation travel times, but those are easy to avoid. The Cape isn't paradise. It has its problems. On the flip side, I'm 5 minutes from the beach, and I can afford to live here.

Tell me you don’t miss COVID, though… :D :D

Fortunately, I’m spared all that, now, Chris. Being retired is great!
