Why electric motorcycles are failing

Don't know the host's name, but I always appreciate the sense of humour in FortNine videos.

The best part in this one is the modern Mac with the classic 3D Pipes screensaver. :)

More seriously, I think with a larger portion of the population living in denser urban cores, more manageable e-bikes (aka, bring 'em into your apartment) have more appeal. He also makes good points re: aerodynamics vs. an electric car.

E-motorcycles will probably gain traction when they can get closer to the range and quick refuelability of a gas cycle, which means newer battery tech.

Agreed. Belongs in eBike rather than /offtopic somewhere.
We ride the same streets, face the same weather, same dogs, same SUVS, .
Two wheeled riders face crime and traffic.
The warning to ebike manufacturers seems to be 'Don't make it too big. No garage available'.

Not really at all comparable. We do not ride the same trails and we have specific lanes. Never had a dog attack me on a motorcycle like on a bike. Absolutely no comparison, legally or operationally. Off topic at best.

A lot of ex motorcyclists are taking up ebikes.

The “tech” is comparable , IIRC hydraulic disc brakes showed up on motorcycles first.

I rode bikes and motorcycles in my youth moved to to e-bikes in my 60s. My Biktrix reminds me of my OSSA When I did trials.

As a motorcycle rider and an ebike owner I agree this topic belongs in General Ebikes. When you have to tag and insure your ebike and ride with cars, you'll want a emotorcycle! But seriously, its a valid comparison Ryan makes.

Fine, let’s turn it into an ecar forum too.

Ditto. Same with ecars/etrucks/yada,yada. I rode motorcycles from the age of 14. I just don’t see the need to talk about them here. Just encourages bad motorcycle behaviors like higher speed. So what if one guy makes a comparison on youtube. Take it off topic.

@Daliant I didn't like the video or the guy doing the talking either. Try the ignore thread button .

Oh FFS. Don’t read threads you don’t like. These days fellas seem to want to accentuate differences. Two wheels, battery powered. Are WattWagons and other high performance eBikes so different? Besides that I’m the campus curmudgeon. No room for two.

I respectfully have to disagree.

Ebikes and Emotorcycles share many similarities.

Some ebikes are very motorcycle-like (as we can all agree with motorcycle headlights, mirrors, seats, tires, forks, etc) and they're both on two-wheels, with throttle, etc.
I dislike the stealth and most faster than class 3 eBikes, but I won’t join the boys arguing over the appropriateness of eCycle threads. This is a community of helpful eBikers. FFS comment on the posts content or go to your room. Sometimes we’re 70 going on 13.

Why e-motorcycles are failing:
In my case: Legislation ! Endless permit requirement, expensive registration, insurance.

And right there ^^^ you have some of the very reasons we as ebikers, emotos, or whatever category we want to slice it had better quit getting our feelings hurt and trying to factionalize each other. Break everyone down into opposing groups until we only support those who have red handlebar grips on their vehicles...LOL!

I guess it's almost human nature unfortunately to have some of that..."that group isn't part of us, so I don't care what happens to them"...until they come for your group. There is potential fallout up and down the chain of E-vehicles, and it's wise to pay attention to what's going on out there even if you have no intention of participating in one of the other groups. The is the "General" category of the forum, and it's wise not to stick one's head in the sand.

If that video seems familiar ... we discussed it already.

That's why gas motorcycles are just as unpopular! It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that batteries have low energy density. Oh wait...
e-motorcycles are in their infancy. We're about to see low cost e-motorbikes hit the market later this year.
Lol the technical problems raised by electrification of motorcycles aren't going away without 5+ years of battery innovation, if not much longer.

Mopeds are a somewhat different matter.
