Nice work. I’m new to this eBike adventure, what app does your info come from? Thanks!
thats fitbit. I have a apple watch but it tends to run out of juice if I ride much in a day. the fitbit keeps better track of heart rate as it is always sensing it. plus it auto records my rides so I don't have to remember to start it.

My biggest gripe about the Apple Watch. They can’t have it sense motion to restart the activity? Ride With GPS never misses, but Apple can’t seem to get this straight.

plus it does not auto start like the fitbit does.

I ended up disabling the auto start on mine, because it would always log motorcycle rides as outdoor bike 🤣

Awesome rides! It really is a great workout. I did one about 50 miles a few days ago, got just as much of a workout as I would have on a regular bike... just went much farther and faster.

I got 50 Saturday but it was over three rides. I get 20 to 25 on my commute then ride on the tandem when I get home.

Long time fan of Polar options. I currently have a Polar Vantage M watch for any activity I want to record other than cycling - walking, snowboarding, treadmill, gym workouts - and a nice backup to the bike computer if ever needed.

With the watch the built in sensor tech on the back works well enough for me to not wear a chest strap.

When cycling I have a Polar V650 with a H10 chest strap. I customize several views for different amounts of data while riding - Incline and Altitude are awesome bonuses I have learned - the available map on the screen is an acceptable backup to my phone in a pinch, if I even need a map as most of my rides are along highways with well marked turns planned ahead.

Below is my longest ride this year (thus far), a week ago Saturday. Without the motor and battery I can only go for 60, maybe 90 minutes.

What's interesting is I have tested - when I ride acoustic I burn around 950-1,000 calories per hour. So yes I technically burn more than the 800 calories per hour I burn riding ebike - but as mentioned, cannot go longer than 90 minutes before I'm exhausted it seams.

Best calorie burn this year riding acoustic was 1,640 over 94 minutes - and yes I struggled on the hills - but happy I did manage the 1.5 hour acoustic ride.

Put me, the same rider on my ebike with a couple (well 5, lol) batteries and I manage to go 100-140kms each ride without issues on even 14% grade hills.

Using fooferdoggie's post for reference - the above ride was a full 1hr 30 minutes of cardio and 3hrs 02 minutes fat burn.

Long distance ebike riding is absolutely life changing for me in both fitness and weight loss.

And yes when I send these screenshots to my acoustic riding friends I do get questioned if the 'motor' is contributing to the above numbers which I firmly reply with (and screenshots of my heart rate for the 5 hours) that the motor is not making my heart beat along at 125-158 bpm (average 130 as noted) which is the calculation for the calorie burn I achieved.

Big thanks to all my new ebike friends here and the community of sharing insights here together.

Cheers
Shaun

One further fun note on this topic -

A long time friend of mine and inspiration for me to cycle asked to join me on a century ride yesterday. I welcomed him joining me and had a great ride out.

For him - he had his best 100km speed/average. No one else he rides with (I'm his only ebike riding friend) can keep up with him, let alone push him/motivate him.

We finished the ride and he realized when he saw his stats the advantage of riding with me, which means so much to me.

And yes...he asked me how the ride was for me - every ride is a good ride and of course having company is great and I told him that. He pressed me about my stats, not so much the average speed knowing I am riding electric, but workout value...and I had to share with him - riding with him dropped my bpm average by 11 compared to other rides as I was 'taking it easy'. :D Photo below for reference.

He smiled, appreciated my honesty and for him the challenge now (he rides a beautiful road bike) is to ride faster with me in future and 'keep up'. A win win for both.

I'm already invited to join him next weekend for a planned 110km ride in his area. Same invite I had just 1 year ago but I didn't have the fitness or equipment to join him and I had to decline. Now I can ride anywhere with him (and all the other riders I know) with confidence - getting an awesome workout every time I go.

Cheers!

My wife wears her Fitbit on every ride. She loves it.

That's so cool! Sounds like lots of amazing rides are in your future :)

When riding my ebike in the mountains I'll sometimes get passed on the uphill by someone on a normal road bike, those folks are amazing athletes.

there are several that auto record but I got the charge 4.

@jaizon I have the Charge 3 which I picked up used on Craigslist for $50 and it works great. It does auto-record, but if you start the activity manually it can leverage your phone GPS and get you speed and map data as well:

They have some other ones such as the Ionic which have built-in GPS for auto-recorded activities, but those are a lot bigger and bulkier (smartwatch size). The Charge series smaller and a lot more comfortable to wear in my opinion.

When they see an ebike ahead of them they get motivated. Happens to me on the flats too where we trade positions several times before/after every traffic stop. I don't tell them I'm riding on half power, and I'm careful not to draft off them.

ya I have done that a few times but I just want auto as even as I usually remember to start it I forget to stop it. I ride 3 times a day or more so it gets easy to forget. I let my Garmin get the gps. I really just wanted to get my heart rate but I did not want to wear a chest strap all the time as I would be too lazy to remove it between rides. so the Fitbit gets my heart rate and my Garmin records the ride.

Nope, you are totally wrong. According to the guy who stopped and talked to us outside the market this afternoon (probably in his 60's) you couldn't get exercise on e-bikes! ;)

Him - Hey, those are electric bikes?
Me - Yup.
Him - But you don't get any exercise on those!
Me - Well, you get just as much as you want to get.

Then the standard discussion about different levels of pedal assist, and pointing out the University studies which show that folks actually get more exercise when they have e-bikes because they ride them more often. And how this was the second trip on bicycles to the market this week, instead of just jumping into the truck.

He shrugged, and walked away still seeming dubious. Hopefully it generated just a hint of a spark in his mind though...
