What's inside this rim?

Greetings

New to tubeless, got a flat, put a new valve stem in and noticed the giant gap.

Is that a liner? Looks thicker than tape.

Should I yank it and replace with rim tape? What would you do?

(The pic with the leaking sealant is stock valve stem from Magicycle, surprised it held air at all)

Thx for the reply, it came tubeless and I want to keep it that way.

Whoever put that rim together left a big gap next to the valve stem, want to fix it right but not sure if I should go with tape or find whatever kind of liner that is.

ok I was not sure if you were trying to convert it. you want tubules rim tape in the right size.

I think I figured it out, it's a fat tire thing (this is my first fat bike).

It's called a rim strip and is basically an elastic band. Guessing they did this to save time / needs to be 3" wide.

It's possible it shifted while I was pushing the bike home 5 miles, try as I did to keep the weight off the back tire.

Gonna ditch the rim strip since I don't have holes in the wheels and replace with Gorilla Tough and Wide so I don't have to worry about it moving on me.

the ones I showed you are sticky backed. but they are made to survive sealant too. you should have sealant in there and patch plugs to fi what you had.

Thx for reposting foo, I missed your links before.

I had dismissed tape like Muc-Off because they maxed out at 35mm wide. I think with these 26x4 rims it needs to be wider.

Thx again.
