What is this cap thing on my fork skewer? It's like a tailcap? Anyway it grew legs and now I either need a new one of these or a completely new fork. My bike is a paperweight without it. It's a Zoom fork, can anyone tell me what the thing's called and maybe point me in the direction to get a few more?

its a nut of some kind for the axle can't say for sure without taking the axle out and looking just take it to a bike shop they may have one. I hope you did not lose it while riding.

Yea it's a zoomed in pic from when I first got the bike. I only had the bike for 2 months, I never took any shots from that low angle yet so this was the best I could do.

It’s a through axle! Google, through axle skewer parts
try with the fork brand name too..

this ought to get your there, Ams 188 Through axle parts

proper nomenclature and bits of the model version will usually be quickest...

Post a pic of what it looks like now... But first guess it's the skewer nut.
Here is the skewer in the fork taken in my garage after the ride where I noticed the missing part, you can see the damage to the rotor from the wheel rocking back and forth in the drops. The second pic is the skewer on my desk. Thank you for the nomenclature, I've been hunting that down for 3 weeks now.

It looks to me like you lost your skewer nut. You could likely find one with a matching thread but unless it's OEM, it won't look the same as the old one. Another option is to replace the skewer if you can match the correct size.
