I'm resisting the urge to rub it in with every fiber in my body. Oops.

Meh....when I think of beaches, sunsets, flora and fauna my immediate thoughts are of Vancouver Island.

On a more serious note, Vancouver and Southwest BC are under a flood watch and people at major airports across the country are still stranded looking for any way to get home to their loved ones in time for the holidays.

Yep, it’s cold, snowy and not very pleasant in most parts of the country and our thoughts during the holiday season should go out to those who are not as fortunate. With sub zero temperatures affecting most provinces and some declaring states of emergency, it’s been a difficult time of the year for many. It’s hard to imagine people being turned away from homeless shelters and having no where else to go or being without power for hours. Winter weather can drastically affect people’s well being and mental state and it’s vital to help those who need it the most. A small gesture such as shoveling snow for a neighbor or volunteering in any capacity might seem small but could make a world of a difference even for one person. I may not live in the warmest spot on the globe so I have a deep respect of what winter here can bring.

Failure of imagination there, my friend. We have beaches like that all up and down the California coast -- including here in SoCal. Had a lot of fun exploring them in my ocean kayaking days.

Now I prefer beaches I can wade in shorts all day long with my dog -- like this one in Laguna Beach...

Lives evolve. That's a good thing.

Lives evolve. That's a good thing.

I’m sure there are some beautiful locations up and down the CA coast and we could likely exchange pleasantries all day long of our preferred places to paddle.

Lives evolve as will mine is what you said before editing your post. My life has changed since I renewed my focus on cycling and sharing that time with my better half has been such an enriching experience. So yes, my life has evolved in that respect and will continue to do so as we set our sights towards loftier goals and that I can agree is a good thing.

Poor Buffalo, 43 inches and up to 8-16 on the way. People are dying. This is serious. A homeless person last night walked to the front of a religious service with a plant and started saying incoherent things. The congregation's leader stepped forward, embraced him and thanked him for his offering, ceremoniously placing it in the most prominent place. Zeus would disguise himself as a poor traveling foreigner just to test how people treated him. The congregation passed the test last night.

Although I escaped any hardship, there are those here that unfortunately could not avoid it.

My daughter tried to fly out Sat. afternoon on Delta, Tulsa to Atlanta to PA. Got on the plane, and 45 minutes later they were all ushered off the plane. Someone had seen flames shooting around a wheel when it landed. Brake problem, we think. Flight was canceled. They auto-rebooked her to go out at midnight (!) with 3am arrival in Atlanta and NO connection flight to PA. She canceled her ticket. Later she found out that the "midnight departure" became 5 pm Christmas day! And no telling how long she might have been stranded in snarled-up Atlanta.

Relatives of her ex were trying to fly from CO to Tulsa on Saturday. Their flight got cancelled too. So they decided to drive back home (not very far), but could not get their checked baggage because the idiot airline shipped it all off to Tulsa via California, and it won't be available for 5 days. They heard some guy who was really upset, said his son's medication which was necessary for him to live was in one of those checked bags.

terrible situation, but this is really, really, really dumb. you NEVER check important medication. and especially not when every headline for a week has been about the travel disruptions being caused / about to be caused by weather.

i take an antiarrhythmic which would have pretty serious consequences if skipped more than once and never in my years have i even thought for a split second about putting it in checked luggage!

Also, if you ever find yourself in that situation, most cities large enough to have a decent airport have a 24-hour pharmacy somewhere and many hospitals and urgent care clinics have a pharmacy on-site. So unless your medication is very uncommon or very expensive you are likely to be able to find a replacement. Expensive? Often it will be but if someone life depends on it spend the damned money and sort it out later.

Lots of snow here in The North Woods of Ontario. We live in a cabin in the woods; of the 2 dozen dwellings along our side of the river, most are seasonal residences, we, and two other families live here full time. Being on a private road brings challenges, however for us, the solitude and tranquility are worth it.

The bikes have been put away, we'll bring them out sometime in April when the snow is gone.

If that story's true, I certainly hope the kid wasn't harmed. But in this post-truth era, I can easily imagine someone making that up just to get special treatment.

However, if it is true, the parent was totally negligent. And it's not just about flying.

If someone in your family takes a critical medication that would be dangerous to interrupt, even for a day, it's just common sense (a) to travel with way more than you'd normally need for the trip to cover delays, and (b) to keep that supply under your direct control at all times. Just like you do with your wallet or purse.

For meds you can safely skip for 3+ days, that can work. But it's best avoided. I've been forced into it 3 times, each when out of state. Home was Colorado.

Timing can be a critical issue. In my cases, my Colorado pharmacy had to transfer the prescription to the away pharmacy. Once it took a day, and once 2 days.

The previously mentioned out of pocket cost could easily run into the hundreds for the meds alone. In one case, I wasn't yet due for a refill, and my drug plan refused to cover what they considered to be extra meds. Cost me over $300.

In each case, had enough time to get all this done without seeing a doc for a new prescription. Otherwise, my out of pocket could have been much, much more.

One tip I gave them is to put your butter into the steaming crab claw chowder then break off chunks of your warm San Francisco sourdough and dip them into that. They were so happy that their kids can play outside.

As a kid we use to rig up a sail with our jackets and try to go up some of the small hills. It worked until we crashed.
We called the high winds "Gale's". They were pretty strong as I can remember and extremely hard to pedal against.

They were so happy that their kids can play outside.

So nice to see the green grass and trees. And the lemons growing on the trees (those are lemons, right?)

Don't normally put bumper stickers on my cars. But for that one, I'd make an exception.

Wait, maybe I could hang the bumper sticker on the front of my front rack or on one side of my rear rack. Which would leave 2 of the 3 spots to rent out as billboard space.
