User review of ebikekit.com kit

Lightning P38

I now have 30 miles on my kit. This kit is a 36 volt, 500 watt motor, and 10 amp hr battery. Rear wheel motor and rack mounted battery. The bike is a Lightning P38 bent.

I must say, I am very happy with this kit and the amount of power. I live 5 miles from Scranton, and wanted to be able to pull some hills to get there and keep up with downtown traffic. I use pas settings of 2 or 3 most of the time. For short bursts of 25 mph I will bump it up to 4 and 5. I have not seen 25 mph on the flats on my bike in the past10 years....so this thing is like a supercharger on my bike.

It also helps with a quick take off from a stoplight with traffic. I am now comfortable riding with cars in a 25 mph zone as I can get up to speed quickly and cruise at 20 mph on pas 4.

I don’t use the throttle, as the pas is much easier and is like cruise control on a car...you just set it for the speed you want. I would not hesitate to buy a kit without a throttle, as I have not used it at all.

Congrats on your build. I want to do a Walmart retro Strand cruiser for the wife. Cooler than a golf cart.

I agree on the issue of throttle. I only use mine to mount my fat-tire. It is a large framed bike I bought slightly used ( I would normally go med) . If regulations ever were enforced enough on throttled bikes I would simply remove the throttle.

Update:
Having used the ekit all season, I am now a proficient user of the system. I still have a high regard for the kit. But I have used the throttle in some specific reasons, and have found it to be convenient in certain cases. Such as riding between the posts on a gated trail. I unclip my feet and rest them lightly on the ground for balance, as I use the throttle to get through it, especially on gravel trails. I also use the throttle to get some speed while I am clipping in my feet to the pedals.
Last week I must have passed through a half dozen gate posts.

So I am glad I do have a throttle in my kit.

I have ridden paved and crushed stone trails, and found that on the stone trails I use more battery power due to the increased resistance of the stone trail. But I usually ride paved trails.
