Does anyone know the details of the chip used to program the controller?
Mine crapped out on me yesterday and I've already ordered a replacement, but I'd also like to repair the one I have. I did a continuity test on the cable which showed it was OK so it has to be the board. I can't find an exact replacement of the HW-597, but I'm assuming that any USB to TTL board should work assuming further I can find the drivers.
Anyone know if this CH340G would work or what I need to look for in an adapter?

This is what I'm using. The link has Prime shipping if you're in a hurry. Otherwise they're about 17 bucks shipped. At this kind of pricing, I'd rather find something else to do if faced with one that didn't work. I'm not into troubleshooting board level electronics though....

Thanks... But I already ordered a complete replacement... and I have the eggrider incase of any programming emergencies 🙃
I wasn't looking to repair the board, I was looking to replace it and reuse the cable part this way I have a spare. Seems these things go for abut $2 and it's an easy 3 wire soldering job.
Just not sure how interchangeable the boards are by model#

Not sure... I have over 100 .el files so it's gotten some use.
I was typically powering up the battery last as my battery had a switch... But the new battery does not so I was unplugging the battery before swapping this in but honestly I do not remember if I did in this case. I was using it with a pc, but the previous use to this was with the otg... So who knows.

At £15 it's good this failed and not the laptop or phone 👍

Yeah, I'd have to go to my spares box, grab an envelope, throw some stamps on and leave for the mail lady. It's time I had a rummage sale and give-aways for those items that are too inexpensive to warrant selling and that whole hassle.

Stupidly expensive but standing up the test of time. The genuine Prolific chips seem to be the least problematic for n00bs.

Supposedly the developer of the otg phone app is working on a Bluetooth dongle. I'm hoping it can run in series with a display and still alow phone programming. That could eliminate the need for plug/unplug repeat

Since the output signal is RS232, any USB to serial converter will work, including the Prolific chip that Tom suggested. The three wires are RS232 TX, RX, and ground. I am not sure about the CH340, but Prolific support is built into Windows and you shouldn't need to install drivers for it.

I figured that... But with limited experience I thought I'd throw the question out there. I was using my existing cable that has the CH340 chip without issue until now... So my laptop already has the correct drivers.
Luckily I have the controller set up for what I want and was just looking to experiment further so the down time isn't a problem.
