Not many fully featured bikes with rack, fenders, motor armor clocking in at 39lbs.

That is most likely for the carbon version. Still, a really good achievement for Trek.

Per my dealer yes. New motor and battery. An interesting tidbit of info he passed along: they are suspension corrected such that front suspension can be added. The SC was not. I'm betting that if this is SC replacement that there will be a class 3 version.

The Allant + will also be available in S models, the Allant+7S, Allant+8S and Allant+9S which will be 28MPH versions.

I put down a deposit on the 9S. My LBS has some Ms and Ls on order so I've got dibs on the best fit once they arrive. Out of the box, I'm thinking I'll equip it with the Kinekt/Body Float and the Redshift suspension stem. And I'll try the carbon fork for awhile. Very nice that we'll be able to upgrade to a suspension fork if desired. Also ordered the add-on for ability to daisy chain the second battery.

I was thinking of getting the 8S but I noticed that only the 7S has a front suspension. Since the roads here are such a mess I'll probably get the 7S just because of the front fork. It is too bad since the 8S has a larger battery, 10 speeds instead of 9 and a better display for a few hundred more.

According to my dealer the bikes are suspension corrected whereas the Supercommuter was not. Thus, you can swap the fork for a suspension fork. But you should confirm this with a Trek dealer as I was mostly discussing the 9 with mine.

On this topic of the suspension forks: I wonder if there are any fork experts in the house that can throw out some suggestions as to the lightest/best e-bike rated air fork for urban (bad roads) riding? The 7 stocks the Suntour Mobie I believe and I'm not sure if that is an air or coil fork. And I'm betting it isn't the lightest out there. My Haibike and R&M have the Suntour Aion but that fork looks burlier/heavier than necessary for a carbon city commuter.

Edit: answering my own questions: the Rock Shox Paragon gold looks to fit the bill. Minimal branding and matches bike, air, small amount of travel for trekking/city riding and e-bike rated:
