Traveling in really wet weather

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE riding in the rain and the mud, its the kid in me. My concern is 75+mph down the hwy in a downpour, road mist, and salt, that I think would be a challenge for any bike at any cost.
My $2500 specialized mountain bike with a "sealed" crank did not live up to its claims, so that is where I am coming from. And adding electrical components, I would think would complicate the matter, but hey, you guys seem to know better.
I think I will choose to cover/protect them.

I purchased a waterproof bike cover for our two bikes... It worked great until I found out it totally obstructed my rear lights. so now I just wrap everything in the stretch wrap you can buy for moving. get it at Lowes/Home Depot.

NO

A good bike is highly water "resistant" NOT waterproof
Well, I suppose from a practical standpoint you should not reasonably expect your bike to survive being underwater. But heavy rain, mist, or road spray are all survivable and should be with no or extremely minimal damage.
