Tires... going to try something new. Rubans

Over the years on my "analog" bikes I've been used to rotating my tires yearly or so but interestingly my front hub commuter/grocery getter now seems to be wearing front and rears fairly evenly.

Okay, so the front hub motor is doing about the same work as the pedals. A mid-drive puts more on the rear.

That's my assumption too. Based on previous experience it just struck me a little unusual when I first noticed it ... but it's a pleasant surprise.

Checking in on the eRuban tires. Still positive results?

I am going to be riding again soon (new hip - whole left leg done now) and I'll be more focused on pavement for this season.
Won't do JW again for current political/trade reasons (no further comment) but a European based tire company like Continental will fit the bill.

I have a second wheelset that has my Ice Spikers on them (tubed), so I'll likely put them on those and leave my tubeless dirt setup alone.
If I do go with these I need to decide on width on my 29"ers - 2.3 or 2.6. the 2.6 will be plusher of course, but the rolling resistance on the 2.3 will be less.

Any and all feedback on tires is welcomed.

Howdy Randall.
Like @Deacon Blues I have been very happy with my Rubans (non e).
At this point I have over 3300kms on them and they're still going strong. After the initial PITA defective tire these have been flawless with no issues and no flats (tubeless).
I have zero complaints, and I would recommend them. Still really happy with no reason/desire to change. When they wear out we'll see what's out there but I wouldn't hesitate in getting the same again.
Hope that helps.

Poking around various Cdn sources (I've looked at 5, mostly eastern Canada) I notice that the Rubans are actually all eRubans ... and even if the product name/title on a web page says Ruban the detailed description includes the paragraph on being ebike compatible. I'm assuming that Continental has upgraded the product and that all they ship now are the e models, but old stock may still be around. In Canada there's not a lot of stock of Rubans at most retail outlets, most just comes through national distributors so old inventory isn't likely to be an issue.

One thing I can't seem to find are weights ... anyone have any comments, comparisons to other tires with respect to weight (and in particular in the 27.5 x 2.3" size?

Ruban is tubeless ready, eRuban is not if I recall.
This page shows the weights https://www.continental-tires.com/products/b2c/bicycle/tires/ruban/

Local shops are pricing ($CDN) the 2.3 eRuban Plus at $55-62 and the 2.6 at $67. Not stocked though - but as hip was done last Wednesday, don't need the tires for a while.

I looked at Fortnine too as they used to have really good prices on body armour, and I am going to be using hip protection for quite a while I think.
But the most expensive local shop is about 10% cheaper than they are for the same tires, plus I always prefer local.

Thanks for the link. I had poked around the Continental website a while ago and for some reason hadn't seen the weights (too many products). The Ruban has a narrower version available, the eRuban has fewer size options ... but just about all the Continental tires seem to be "e" capable (S-pedelec). I'm not quite sure what's going on with the Cdn distributors, and the dealers don't seem to really know much about the long term availability of the original Ruban.

I don't know these guys, but they "say" they have stock...

Really good shop in Cochrane, just outside of Calgary. I bought my Fathom there.
In the local business awards, they've won best bike shop at least once.

I'm a fan, but it means I have to drive a car to get there, where as there's a number of shops I hop on my bike to get there.

Off topic:
It is a very popular route for roadies to ride to Cochrane and back, but there's a bit of a climb down (and up) the Bow River Valley where the town is.
There should be a riverside route from Calgary to Cochrane, but a certain landowner blocks the route about halfway there.
There's a railway right of way but no road or pathway to "easily" get around the blocked land.

Shame - it would be a fantastic ~40km ride from my house (each way). Once I'm physically ready, I will see if I can find a way.

the best rueban I ever had was from "Dirty Nellies pub" in Charlolletsville,VA( where in the wide world of sports did these italics come from? Oh,my bad this about bike tires, not eating sorry.Too many Vados I guess.

Should almost start a "favorite classic sandwich" thread in the Off-Topic area. Not one-off specialty stuff that are never replicated from place to place but things like Rueben's or Monte Cristos or ??.

I didn't take it that way.

Update on tires:
I bought the eRuban's today. $117 Canadian all in (with a 10% discount code).
I pick 'em up on Wednesday, but won't likely use them until April.
Doing some leisurely spins on stationary bike as I am on day 16 post hip replacement.

I am considering getting a tattoo on my left leg:
"Custom built by Zimmer Biomet"

I didn't take it that way.

Awesome. It will be interesting to hear your experience with eRuban!

too bad.

Rode on the eRuban tires today - first ride on new hip (6 weeks ago).

As it was a very cautious ride, can't comment too much on grip, but they seemed to be very quiet and efficient.
Time will tell but as a first impression, I think it was very similar to my feelings about my first ride with Johnny Watts on my last bike.
