Throttle adding to Bafang M420.

Hello everyone,

I’m looking to buy a new E-bike with a bafang M420 Motor. But is it possible to add a throttle to it? I already found out that I probably need to buy a new uart cable with a throttle plug. But most of the wires of this bike are build in to the frame. So I can imagine that it’s maybe difficult to change the uart cable.

I would like to here your opinions about this.

Thx!

Have you already continued with your research?
Your research is not quite correct.
the M420 motor only has a CAN protocol.
So you also need a CAN display.
These displays have a triangle connector.
Your picture with 1T4U must therefore have a triangle connector.
Many bike manufacturers have soldered their displays to the motor/controller connector without a triangle connector.
But you only know that after you buy it and unscrew the frame.
It is not difficult to remove the motor from the frame. Just have a look at the data sheet at BAFANG-e.com.
I don't know yet whether the Motor controller also has wiring for a throttle connection!!
It would be interesting for me too. I have yet a Tenway ago-T. Try the connection.
You should also known, you can only use the throttle if the bike speed greater then 10 km/h.

Hi, finally a answers lol. Yes I continued my research. I already found out that the e-bike has CAN protocol. If bike manufactures soldered their display to the controller, that would be a big problem. Thanks for letting me know. The motor normally don’t have a throttle connection. That’s why you need to change the wire from the controller to the display and brakes etc. It’s the cable from the picture, you also have hem for CAN. I already know you can only use the throttle if the bike goes faster then 10 km/h. Other wise you will burn the motor;)

Hello again, the cable from the display is not soldered to the motor controller. There is already a plug on the cable from the display. The cables can be seen in the frame inside the battery compartment. You have to loosen the motor underneath the frame to get to the cables that come out of the motor. I will loosen the motor at some point. I need to get to the plugs to connect the laptop with software to change a few things.

I haven't had my AGO-T for long. But I'm happy with it. They are all parts that you can probably buy cheaper elsewhere after the warranty. (display C18-CAN; 860C-CAN, DP C010, etc.)
You can also buy the motor controller if it breaks.
I haven't seen any other comparable e-bike for that price. Do you need the warranty conditions? I have a list that shows how long the warranty lasts for each part.

But in your other message you said that some e-bikes have it soldered to the controller?? I’m probably gonna buy a egg riders display. You can do a lot of things with it. It’s really a amazing product.

Sorry, but my English is not so good.
The second message is the correct one. There is a connector soldered to the display cable (5 wires). I have not yet opened this connection with shrink tubing. If you go to the EggRider homepage you will read: for Bafang mid drive motors = CANbus communication - Not Compatible.

The new eggrider c1 is compatible with CANbus, the v2 model not.

But what did you mean with this: Many bike manufacturers have soldered their displays to the motor/controller connector without a triangle connector.

I still don’t understand lol.

OK, I meant that
the Tenways bike has its own display (perhaps a clone of ?).
It is not an original from Bafang, Egger, etc.
If you buy an original display in a shop or wherever , this display has a crimped CAN bus (triangle) plug on the cable.
The plug from the Tenways display was separated (cut through) from the cable in order to run it through the holes in the handlebars, frame, etc.
After that, the plug was then soldered back on.
Other bike manufacturers probably handle the cable routing in this way too, depending on how the frame and handlebars are designed.
That's what I wanted to say.
So if you want to permanently install another display later, you have to run the cable through the frame as described. (Cut off the plug, run the cable through, crimp/solder the plug) You can also run the cable outside along the frame, but it doesn't look nice.

Ooo know I understand yes. I hope my further e-bike don’t have it like that. But I will take a look at the showroom once I’m gonna buy the e-bike. Eggrider is only for sale on their own site right? Or also on aliexpress?

The e-bike I want to buy in the furter has a bafang display. But the gap under the frame looks kinda small. So I don’t know if it’s possible to change the wires their. Maybe I can ask the bikeshop. But maybe I then get in trouble with the warranty.

Yes, I think that’s how it will be with the loss of warranty.
Here the bike shop won’t even install a display (egger, ..) if it isn’t approved for road use.
Actually, you’re not allowed to have a throttle on your bike here either.
It’s all so crazy, just laws, laws. But I’ll still modify the speed limit from 25 km/h to 45 km/h at some point.

This is my bike now.
I've had it for a week. It came in a box to assemble.
Very easy. Watch the videos on YouTube.
The weather is fantastic today. Pure sunshine, clear skies, 18 degrees. I'm going to go riding soon. lol

Why wouldn’t a shop install a display lol? Your bike looks clean. Here is it also 18 degrees today. You also from Belgium;)?
