The Green Room

The cold weather just arrived. 31 degrees this morning. I lit the fire, something I usually don't do untill Thanksgiving, b/c once I start it I'll be running it for weeks.

I have some very good personal news that is also very good environmental news. Artificial biology is absolutely exploding in what can be done ... like electricity did.
Not just vaccine and medicine.
A team in NC has tested a new lifeform that eats a contaminant that our sewer system has been unable to treat so far. The hydro carbon molecules from fossil fuels like leaky gas tanks.
They developed a plankton ? that they fed on butane untill it grew big enough to go into the sewage treatment plant where it absorbs long hydro carbons from the water.
The very good personal news is that was my daughter's PHD project... 😁
And more artificial biology. I posted about my daughter's biotech work at post 97. This is cool tech but probably only (ai driven) freight haulers will really need liquid fuel by the time this pans out ...if it does.

If it's in your house, it came in a truck. Not necessarily a diesel truck.

Actually if you think about it We are far safer from the climate then just 100 years ago and before : FAR less Risk Besides 3 grade science refutes the Green House Co2 nonsense

Some of you may remember the aftermath of a storm event we had about a decade ago:
images

It dumped 12 inches of rain, caused widespread flooding across our region, resulted in several deaths and, courtesy of the Pasha Bulker, created a new temporary surf break.

That storm was estimated to be a 1 in 100 year weather event. In a report commissioned for our city council a storm event like that will be a 1 in 1 year event by the end of the century. Pretty sobering stuff.

I don't believe that for a minute : The Bible says God sent the rainbow as a sign He would never destroy teh planet with Water again. Next time it's by Fire : And if you are keeping up with events with the Abraham Accord and the Temple for teh Jews . We don't have to the end of the decade let alone the Century .

Besides I find it funny that we are having all these unprecedented Storms . How exactly would we know that ? Records don't go back but 150 or so years . However without getting accused of preaching I'll just say . What we have seen so far . For earth Quakes ,Plaques and storms as well as wars . Is nothing compared to a 7 year period where 2/3's of the Population doesn't survive . Considering there's an Israel . The rest must also be true :

I knew that your location has a bullseye on it for bad weather, but going from a once a century storm to once a year sounds like bad science fiction. And the heat waves, holy s..t. It's going to be a struggle to keep it even habitable down there. Like the island nations drowning. Really sorry.

Again probably better late than never.
The problem is John Kerry can do nothing about China. Nor anyone for that matter. They have a thousand coal plants and bring dozens more on line every year. They don't care one whit about the earth's climate. While The US and Europe have made tremendous strides in lowering pollution and improving energy consumption. Several asian countries dump their garbage in rivers. Many pics on the web. The western world is not putting plastic in the ocean. Asia is. Yes we need to do more. I'd love to get my happy meal and coke in all biodegradable paper containers etc. But I ain't going back to a horse and buggy existence when the real polluters are never even mentioned.

🤔 can't tell if serious or elaborate digital performance art piece.

There's worse places to live in Australia. Plenty of towns ran out of water completely last year. Some major centres came close. Plus at least there's no risk of bushfires!

It's on the long term plan to build in a little more resilience.. simple things like a drinkable rainwater tank and battery to go with the solar array. It's those short term utility disruptions I believe will be the immediate threats.

Yeah China and India are problems, but China at least is making progress at their usual very rapid pace. When I visited there before the Olympics, no one could walk very far in the streets of Beijing without masking up just because of air pollution...made your lungs hurt. MUCH better now. The Communist party seems to get buy in from citizens almost overnight, compared to the West, so they can change very fast. Never went to India, and probably never will now, so I don't know about them, but the standard of living seems to be so low that they don't have much chance to pollute, kinda like Africa, the impact per person is very low. So the West will need to lead.
