Decades ago Rochester MN Home of the Mayo bought out the local electric utility and had the lowest power bills in MN. In my opinion electrical utilities should be controlled by the customers.
I remember rural electric co-op service as excellent...but that was long ago, maybe 40 years ago. They still exist?

Texans need to elect more responsible leaders or they’ll be facing this same disaster yet again.
That´s putting it mildly. How many disasters have they had in recent years? Then again they´re not alone.
The planet is sentient & is trying to tell us something.

Climate is what the experts expect. Weather is what people get. And this weather sucks.

"No one could have predicted this, Its all a hoax that will never happen, OK so It's changing, but it won't be that bad" are all Bull AFAIK . A hot topic, indeed, even for EBR off topic. You are a smart group, but please be polite.
Stories instead of scientific definition. Why? There is no scientific definition by the metrics because it's not science. What is the shortest period or smallest amount of weather data that can be called "climate"?
"SHUT UP!!! That's how short."

The greenest member of Congress. In practice, not words. I couldn't care less about party politics. The first time I ever heard Thomas's story it was a podcast about living sustainably. I didn't know which party he represented, he never mentioned, I guessed libertarian. One of the things he did stress was living green wasn't cheap. Seems impossible to discuss green without politics, which is a shame. There is an unavoidable political message in this video, but it's not a party message.

What's the greenest, easiest and lowest cost - no, it isn't a cost, its a savings - measure that you can do? Dilute the good American dishwashing detergents and laundry detergents to 1/4 or even 1/10 strength and it's still more concentrated than the Mexican import and reduce tapwater waste as well. Reduce skin sensitivity issues at the same time, if you have those.

Houston is a nightmare due to POOR urban planning and very weak building codes. We keep rescueing Houston and never working on a solution. Likewise the beach properties in several states get trashed and we pay to recover. MOVE! Here the loose screws build in the Mississippi River flood plain. GOOFY

And we are not part of the magical sentience, the One-ness. Okee-dokee.

It is nature´s way of reducing what is too much & fixing what is too little, but sometimes it needs a little help.

Aren't people part of nature? If so, it's just nature - unless humans are supernatural.
In that case, why worry?
Consider that wildlife populations have declined 68% since 1970. If we are part of nature, we are not
leaving much for anything else. Floods try to rinse out pollution, Tornadoes are but angry spirits. Fires
leave nutrient ash on the soil. Grass returns greener than ever after a fire when moisture is not prevented
from reaching the soil by dry dead growth. These examples of what nature does are contrary to what man
is doing. While our herd is stampeding over the cliff, one running the other way seems crazy.

There is a great documentary on Amazon or Netflix on trees. We think of them in abstract ideas of possible fuel or utility, but they have evolved profound symbiotic systems that we still are understanding. One expert explained that fungus acts as a conduit between trees- if one tree needs to communicate with the neighbor, such as a threat, it sends a chemical to the fungus who then sends it to the neighbor. Her work involved feeding a tree a certain isotope and she was amazed at how far out in the forest she found that isotrope- including other species of trees. They work together and share resources, when they see the other tree as a friend, they ensure their branches do not hurt the other tree. But when we clear cut those trees, and the fungus, what is replanted never communicate and never form the important symbiotic relationships they need to thrive.

Another important issue is the damage the automobiles do to their area. A car driving over a trees area compacts the top meter of soil and makes it unusuable- I think they said it takes 200 years for that dirt to loosen up again. The expert said we should use horses. While it would be more expensive in the short run, in the long run the trees would grow faster, they wouldn't clear cut, and the damage would be minimized. There is no forest in Europe right now that is healthy simply because of the use of autos.

@john peck , you seem to believe that that nature or the Earth is sentient. Maybe it is, but I don't see evidence of that yet.

What I see is a huge, super complex, integrated system that responds to disturbance with lots of oscillation and an almost infinite variety of feedback loops. And billions of humans all pushing all the levers the wrong way.

Where we seem to agree is that if people don't control their impacts, nature will control them in ways that won't be pleasant for people.

That pretty much covers it, but I have greater empathy for nature than for mankind. We have,(for the most part),
lost touch with the natural world in our quest for self-gratification. There are those few who can still live in
harmony with nature, but that is a rare exception in our ´culture?´ If it is not sentient, there is still a cosmic cycle
of decay & renewal that will return even if it means our own extinction.

Seems like denial of a problem is always the first thing people have to get past to fix a problem... Like the way 12 step programs (AA) start with ' Hi I'm an alcoholic' or such.
Also in the five stages of grief models, Denial is step one.
Wait! Denial isn’t a River?
