Oliver Sacks in a later book? Had a wonderful time snorkeling the reefs of Guam.
Reefs are one more canary singing in our vast coal mine

BTW I enjoy Stefan’s posts, and take his opinions as enthusiastic rather than as dogma
One problem with golf courses by coral reefs is the runoff of fertilizers and pesticides.
I met Oliver Saks once. Uncle Oliver visited a neighbor nephew and clogged the toilet! The neighbor was a not handy economist and it was a holiday. So I took care of it. I loved his books. He had some odd neurological issues himself, like not being able to see faces. The book Musicophalia was my favorite. It helped me to ease the suffering of a dying friend. By playing the music of her teens her dementia seemingly vanished and she could go for hours without pain meds.

Yes, there is a development in Vegas that has an artificial lagoon connecting the docks of the Mac Mansions. It is called The Lakes.

Psychologist Alfred Adler suggested that people work toward overcoming inferiority by "striving for superiority." If I had a bike that only went 15, it would suck bigtime. I would feel like doggie doo too and might end up taking it out on others. I might even take to spandex and posting boasts to compensate because I would feel like riding with a paper bag over my head in shame.

I first became aware of Sachs in, I think, in 1965 when I saw a wild picture of a huge curly long haired young man squatting with something like 750lbs. Robin Williams when filming ‘Awakenings’ described him as a cross between Albert Schweitzer and Arnold S. Th rough my own forays in the Iron Game I say w/o fear of contradiction he was twice as strong as Arnold

Yup Lived and worked there for 20 years. Steve Wynn allowed me to convert properties to organic inputs and installed, at a crazy price, an RO system to treat hotel greywater for water features. But otherwise, it's just an unsustainable city overall. In 2005 I wanted a permit for a solar water panel for my hot tub, and solar electric, but the power company and county said no. FFS 310 days of sun or more and I could count the number of solar installs on one hand.

Extraordinary. And then you go to somewhere like Vermont or Germany and there's little community solar farms everywhere. With their weather. Some evidence that consumer behaviour is driven by policy.

Rooftop solar generation recently exceeded 100% of daytime grid demand in one of our states. The big gridwide challenge from here is now to capture and release that during low production hours.

There are Chicken Factories. One type is for meat, the other for eggs. Both are wretched. Genetically the factory meat chickens can not stand without breaking their bones after six-weeks. Free range chickens are fun, affectionate and lay eggs that have orange yokes and taste rich. Now antibiotics are in the factory feed.

(sigh) if you only knew

"Since 2008, Australian chickens have been suffering from intense outbreaks of a disease called infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT). Their eyes become red and swollen, they cough and gasp for air, and they sometimes bleed from their noses. The survivors produce fewer eggs, leading to severe losses for farmers.

The disease is caused by a highly contagious virus called ILTV. It’s a herpesvirus, one of the group that causes herpes, chickenpox, and glandular fever in humans. It’s a problem for poultry the world over, but the recent outbreaks in New South Wales and Victoria have been unusually severe, killing up to 18 per cent of infected chickens. They also have an ironic origin – they’re the result of vaccines.

Chickens are often vaccinated against ILTV, using weakened versions of the virus. Now, Sang-Won Lee from the University of Melbourne has found that two such vaccines have merged together to create the live and virulent virus behind the recent outbreaks. The measures that were meant to protect the chickens have only made things worse. (Some of you may now be worrying or wondering if the same applies to human vaccines. You can skip straight to the end where I discuss this, but it’s worth knowing what actually happened first.)"

Make More Coal
Clean Coal happens when you make coal. That entails sequestering carboniferous plants underground on a large scale for thousands of years. That is how you make coal. It is clean because it removes carbon from the air and puts it in the earth in a solid form.

I saw a wild picture
He was gay and a record lifter. He was a Doctor and meth-head, at least for a time. He was also a compassionate scientist and great healer. He memorized the periodic table as a kid and thought of the elements as interacting story characters with personalities. The human brain is more fascinating than a what the Webb will discover. Saks was an explorer on that front. Where would he be on Green issues today?

I guess some brave soul will suggest closing the "Greenroom" till then its been a hoot.( I have this urge to recycle soft plastics, the only plastic around here you easily recycle) people used to keep the glass bins full, now they will not even accept glass. As long as scrap prices are up metals seem to have a good turnaround as "PedalUma sez" reuse is very noble.I used to reuse discards to build nice structures and a person can build a nice bike from another persons junk, wait a few months till the stimulus money is gone and the dusty big box bike is discarded, you may find some"diamonds in the rough" especially if you follow "KevCentral".
Remember reduce, repair, repurpose, recycle? In the states, we tried to start at the wrong end of the string b/c the correct left to right meaning was "crazy talk" since it meant "don't buy our stuff ". To the powers that be

When people don't know anything, of course. But a rank beginner can do it.
He said it was hard, take it up with Him-are you growing corals?
The more I read the responses , the more I see no one reads anything or even looks for the answers.. Kind of disappointing lol..

Record-breaking 2020 ozone hole closes

Several questions asked and rebuttals of Labeling and deflection but no factual rebuttals just name calling.. When I don't have an answer I usually look it up to find out.. Been ready (not listening to tv) about the Covid/illness and treatments both good and bad for 2 years.. Might not have an education like some but obvious the education wouldn't have done me any good as I would respond with my Emotions and tell them how Dumb they are.
Not meant for you Kmccune I am just making an observation .
Was that the Ozone hole caused by Mt Erebus? how about everywhere else'

Yup acidified the ruminants stomachs supporting E. coli. Making it a ready available treat. And producing a fat better at clogging arteries. Meat is becoming less and less sustainable. Chicken factories are also huge polluters. But a great source of antibiotics to help create resistance to antibiotics. Nuts!
Remember the 'Fisteria" outbreaks in the Carolina fisheries"oink, oink" I guess alot of our Pork comes from the Caroline factory farms( Free range Meat or go vegan!
