What's the front axle dropout? 135mm? Front hub motor is a possibility. Surly must have a chro-moly front fork.

The ebikeling regular width front/rear motor is 135 mm dropout. The fat wheel rear motor is 175 mm dropout. Should be able to fit one of those in. Only problem is, he's sold out. Funny thing, with China shut down & all.
Unless you've welded aluminum, don't do any frame cutting. Unless yours is steel. I've tried aluminum, and with helium gas & a hi freq unit I still couldn't get the 2 puddles to mix. Maybe the hi freq unit was broken, nobody on 3rd shift had ever used it.

That's certainly not the last option. Before you cut the frame, I'd price out a new fat eBike. Sell what you have, and you are riding instead of welding.

Loving those 2xl vee tires in snow... Surly ict is one of few frames to accommodate them...for snowboarding trips its a perfect match... With strong motor with 160nm tourqe I would be ultimate machine...

Check out the comment on very bottom.

Looks like there is 197mm hub motor, although he mentioned it was custom made by a shop on AliExpress.
I know that guy... Couldn't find that motor anyway on Internet ... Meanwhile I realised mid drive motor is best option for my needs... Climbing , snow and a lot of towing / snowboarding gear etc... Not into speed, commuting and road use where rear hub motor does it well

You and 99.9% of electricbikereview posters never heard of the geared hub motor. Which is what the fat ebikling motor is.
Those are plastic geared, which hauls my 310 lb around fine on 15% grades. You want metal for shock loads, get a MAC fat geared hub.

It's not rocket science... This guy did it... Cost is around 800 euro... To sell mine and buy new one would break my bank... Its a shame they produce mid motor only up to 120mm...https://www.electricbike.com/adding-bafang-ultra-frame/
