Stuff you find on the road.

I saw an iPhone when I was riding with my buddies down a decline... was going pretty fast so I didn't stop.

We get about halfway to our turnaround and one of the guys says "I think I lost my phone!". Just me an him rode back since I knew the area where I saw it and we see it is still there and it was his phone. I guess I should have picked it up or at least asked them but they were way ahead of me on that decline.

Amazingly it was still there and no cars had run over it or other bikers didn't pick it up.

I found a beat up Estwing claw hammer in the middle of a busy road back in my commuting days. I still have and use it.

I've found a few wallets in the road. Always managed to return them to their owners. Since my old commuting times were early, returning them usually meant waking people up. Often very hungover people. which presumably explains why their wallet was in the road in front of their houses in the first place.

Have found a few miscellaneous bike tools on rides. Generally cheap multitools and a few tire levers. I usually give them away.

Found my own multitool several years back. Rode to work, was halfway there when I realized my saddlebag was open and my multitool was missing. Kept an eye out on the ride home and found it on the edge of the shoulder of the 50mph 4 lane road I crossed in front of my neighborhood. Cars flew by 12" from it for 10 hours or so but it somehow wasn't hit. Still have that multitool, though it lives in my MTB camelbak these days.

If we include people in the "found" category, a fun story is the time a full MTB night ride I was leading "found" a young couple having, er, relations, on a log on the side of the trail. They were apparently unaware of the bi-weekly official night ride at that suburban park. Awwwwwwkward.

At least they'd given some thought to positions.
