steering head play??

Hi,
for a carbon fork with it's "mystery to me" compression fitting in the head, should there be any play in fork bearings?
At rest with front brake on, should there be any movement forward when pushed? No movement or is small movement allowed?

What does it take to adjust the play out properly, without crushing the carbon forks?
Doable by novice or you do need a pro for this???

What would you call that "repair/adjustment"?? If I wanted to search youtube and try to learn
a little more about this mystery zone :)

Thanks for any help.

Loosen the stem clamp bolts then tighten the cap (do not loosen the interior bolt). The steerer should turn freely without binding but not flop or shift when braking. After tightening the cap retighten the clamp bolts to prevent lock the stem to the steer tube. The interior bolt should not be loosened as it is holding a five part assembly consisting of two cones and three or four wedges. This assembly is replacing the old style star nut so that the force is spread out to prevent cracking the carbon fiber.
