Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I swing my leg over the rear of the saddle. That's why I finally went with panniers. I would sometimes hit the rear luggage on the rack. I will try to find some deep, thick grass and try stepping over the top tube. I recall as a kid (and seen some others do it), placing one foot on the pedal, thereby being whatever inches off the ground and swinging over then. But with cleats and narrow shoes I'm not sure that would work without body damage!
The easiest way to get on a man's bike if you can't swing your leg high enough . Is to lean the bike towards you just short of horizontal and throw your leg over . I have 5 broken ribs from both sides . Leaning the bike is currently the only way I can get on or off .

That reminds of the time I pedaled the five miles down to Seattle's Pike Place Market on my mt bike. I had been having hip problems but not while riding. I tried dismounting. I tried dismounting. I... Lots of tourists and people watching this comedy routine. Finally, I just dropped the bike on the ground and stepped over the various tubes. I was laughing as it was such an absurd situation. Reversed the routine when I went to mount. But absolutely no issues pedaling home the five hilly miles.

Needless to say that hip has now been replaced. And actually, replaced again. But it still hikes and cross-country skis and bikes.

Hope you fully heal and quickly.

That's still the way I do it (and I do use SPD cleats), but will admit that it's not real comfortable on the Vado 4 since I do sometimes hit the trunk bag with my foot (due to the longer wheelbase?) and have worried about losing my balance and falling, which seems more likely on such a heavy bike. Thus the plan to get the step-thru SL.
Doug: I promise I'll make a short video demonstrating how I easily mount the high-step frame on Sunday

Boo. Hiss. :) I need it early Sunday morning so I can beat the heat which is expected to be 100F or 38C. Thanks for your work and postings.

Sure, on my road bike or hybrid, but leaning a 55lb Vado over far enough is not comfortable for me.

My brother promised to come at 9 am to my place on Sunday. That would be night or evening for most of you. We will shoot the video and post it. No need to lean the bike at all! The trick is so simple it took breath from me when Jacek demonstrated that to me long time ago.
I'm only ashamed for my spoken English because I'll need to say a couple of words to you.

I'm sure you could do it easy . I had 5 ribs broken for me less then 6 weeks ago. Yeah it hurts but I can do it easy . I'm not a big guy 5'11 175lbs . And older then dirt :) It's just leverage . Before I bought a Bike stand I could lay it in the grass and flip it up on those handlebar jacks (piece of cake)
How do you load it on a bike rack ?

So you have 3 E-bikes ?? Nice : Do you have an air fryer ?

I hope you know I was kidding about the timing. And you write fluently in English so do not worry about your spoken English. I barely write fluently in English and that's where it also ends.

We have an air fryer! Makes great French fries. I was skeptical at first, but my wife thought it was a good idea and she’s right. She even bakes cookies in it.
I tried one from Costco, where else! Too noisy and a pain to clean. Returned it. It did make nice sweet potato fries but that was not sufficient to justify.

Latest expensive kitchen gadget. Think of 'Grey Poupon' vs mustard.
Now, now. There is no comparison. I recently ran out of the real Grey (I use in salad dressings and rub on for lamb/pork. I purchased the store's "grey" and it is awful!

By the way, 96F (35.5C) in generally moderate Seattle and I'm holed up. Also air quality is now 64 which is moderate which is not terrific.

With my wife's help or use the ramp that came with the rack. I'm strong enough to lift the bike but am not anxious to spend the months of effective disability from the back injury that I had last year. In any case, I'm going to get the step-thru SL so this discussion is moot.

It's OK @rochrunner. We are shooting the video anyway. And 9:00 CET is the only time available to me and Jacek.

Regarding my spoken English, I speak the language easily in case I have at least a single English speaker as my audience (face to face or on the other end of the line). My English dries up whenever I have to speak to a camera though.

I'm not interested with the air fryer: French fries are not my favourite meal. My more direct issue is that having lost my house to the fire, I have no space to store N+1 e-bikes. My Trance E+ is with my brother; he also keeps my Lovelec in the storage as a guest e-bike. My "big" Vado lives inside my car. And I keep Vado SL in my social care flat I live in.

The First Metric Century With My Vado SL

Some stats:
  • 106.5 km (66 mi) ridden in 5 hours 10 minutes net, giving average speed of 20.6 km/h (12.8 mph); my Vado SL is limited to 25 km/h. I could reach 31 km/h on my own leg power on the flat.
  • Average assistance: 57%
  • 134% of combined batteries consumed.
  • Energy consumption: 3.92 Wh/km (6.3 Wh/mi)
  • My own contribution with pedalling: 53%
I was producing far higher leg power than it was on more powerful e-bikes, and I got as sweaty as never before. Now, I feel mental pain to return riding full power e-bikes!

Note: @Rás Cnoic is right. You need to swap the 44T chainring with the 38T for riding in hilly area!

Sounds like a terrific ride with good results and battery useage. How much elevation gain over the ride?
