My bike meets its hero
Stopped in to see buddy Gary at Cadence Cyclery of Encinitas on today's Stage 10 of my solo Tour de Carlsbad. And what do I find but a $16k replica of the yellow Colnago V4Rs that overall winner Tadej Pogacar held over his head on the final podium of the 2024 Tour de France!!

My bike and I nearly fainted. The original was the very bike that inspired me to buy this yellow Specialized Vado SL 1 two months later. The replica lacks the original's carbon fiber chainring and little else.

Let's wallow in some prime bike porn, shall we? From front to back....

Cadence got 2 of them. The other was purchased on sight the next day. And they don't expect to have this one much longer.

They let me pick it up. Geez, no wonder Pogi could hold this thing high overhead: It weighs NOTHING! Words cannot express the lust in my heart.
Gorgeous!

The Mysterious Case of The Tank from Pruszków

In 2011, there was stagnation in the scrap metal market in Poland. One Jose Mariusz Olejnik (JMO), a co-owner of the Junkyard in Pruszków bought a T-55 tank from a collector and put the vehicle in the front of his yard. That combined with active work on Facebook made the Junkyard By The Tank in Pruszków famous throughout Poland!

In 2011, Mr JMO also took another initiative. He and a group of enthusiasts started creating steel figures from scrap metal. A single figure could consist of as many as 37,000 elements! (A 2018 photo).

Over 600 steel figures were created and can be seen in galleries of Warsaw, Zakopane, and Prague. The Pruszków Gallery of Steel Figures was the home site for GSFs.

On March 8th this year, the tank disappeared, and the junkyard's office was destroyed by a fire. JMO noticed the theft early and reported the case to the police. On March 25th, the tank was found in a private museum of armoured vehicles 70 km away from Pruszków. The investigation is ongoing. Important to mention the collector value of such as tank is from US$27,000 to 80,000.

The whole matter is mysterious. I rode nearby the Junkyard yesterday and could see that:

Someone has towed the precious figures to open air and let them rot!

I can only guess it is all a serious feud between business partners. Very sad to see it happen!

P.S. It is my nearest neighbourhood, 2.35 km away.

Beautiful view across Crystal Springs Reservoir! Those Bay Area fogfalls over coastal ridges never get old — as long as you're watching from afar and not chilled to the bone inside.

No worries — not always clear which of our 3 main photo threads is the best fit for a given post. And no one cares much anyway. This thread's used more for unusual stuff seen on rides, as the title implies. But most places don't have frequent fogfalls, and you ride there, so might as well post them here.

However, if that's not unusual enough: The miles-long chain of narrow straight-line valleys flooded by the reservoir is the surface trace of the San Andreas Fault. So you're biking on the North American plate and looking across to the Pacific plate as it scrapes by on its way to the Aleutian trench.
I agree wholeheartedly Jeremy!! I lived in San Mateo for several years and enjoyed sights like this on a regular basis. Seeing this great picture of Crystal Springs made me realize that that area was the very best location I’ve ever lived in. One cant look back and change again to what once was but the fond memories will always remain. Feeling homesick!
