SHOW us YOUR PIX here .... Odd, WeiRd ,UnUSuAl or EyE CaTchIng things from your rides

sandy river is really high with all the rain we had this week. its really early for it to be this high. the fist video is about 40 miles from us and the second is 12 miles from is and maybe a mile or so from the Columbia river it empties into.
If you put on balloon tires, can you make it across the river :)

Makes you wonder what happened to the owner and his family? Was he the last child in his line that didn't have kids? Who knows , so many places like this tell stories we may never know. Notice someone left a jar of canned pickles on the truck hood. Odd

Somewhat better than the average underpass graffitti methinks....View attachment 140269

You just gave me an idea for a ride. On the PA turnpike there are 3 abandoned tunnels that are open and able to be ridden through. I know where the start of one of them is. Good lights would be required, that tunnel is a little more than a mile long. Over all ride would probably be a little more than 10 miles out and back.

Anyone up for a ride?

My Schwalbe 700 -38 Marathon Winter Plus tires are very confidence inspiring in these fog induced black- ice mornings! They will stay on until Spring or until they wear out as they are not too loud on dry roads ( as opposed to the ice spikers which break the sound barrier) I have also ordered another set of cheaper (17 Euros each) Schwalbe Winter Active touring tires ( from Bike24). These only have two rows of studs and will only get used in case the Marathons wear down before the season does.

Forgot to mention, one of these tunnels, I'd have to look up to see which one, was where part of the movie The Road was filmed.

Couple of oddities from today's ride with bonus sunset pic from the house after the ride.
Peace Sinkhole.jpg

Recently formed sinkhole with peaceful meaning.

Beached Diveboat.jpg

This is pretty far from the harbour........I christened it the Minnow
Sunset Three Arch Rocks 11:18.jpg

Catching the sun between the rocks only happens a few times a year weather permitting. This year the fall pass by has been particularly good due to great weather here.

On one way home from my ride yesterday, I swung by the local cemetery to pay respect to my grandparents and to view some of the older grave plots and unique headstones.

This particular headstone is the resting place of Rev. Leonard and Caroline Gaetz who were highly regarded citizens of our city during the 1800s. My grandparents lived out their lives well into their 80s and 90s whereas the Gaetzs died at much younger ages (sixties) during their era. I guess that it just goes to show how far we’ve advanced with modern medicine, public health improvements and the ability to manage chronic conditions.

went on a 40 mile ride to go on a 40 mile ride. our turn around was a park so why not check it out. it was really spread out like being in the woods with paths lots of ups and downs and al the things were really spread out. it had a frisbee golf course and a hug dog park. found these bathrooms oops. weird they let them up as they have been bad for a really long time. on the way home we got keto tacos (well cheese for the tortilla) really good with a beef broth to dip them in.

Let us hope for your sake that you will not need to find those bathrooms again after the tacos...

I popped downtown to run some errands after a disappointing trail ride and came across some eye popping murals that I had never noticed before. I couldn't convince the sun to make an appearance when I took these pics. :(

I particularly dig this one painted over the walls of the local soup kitchen. It was the former home of the German Canadian Club.
