At long last a couple of days when rain, strong winds or cold temperatures weren't forecast. That said, the second day of our trip looked a bit suspect from time to time, and whilst it looked as though the heavens could open any minute it remained dry. We have a lot planned this coming summer with other things apart from cycling filling up the calendar so we chose to grab the chance when the window of opportunity presented itself.

It's been our intention for quite some time now to ride what is known as the Sculptoura Radweg or Sculpture Cycleway https://www.outdooractive.com/en/ro...route-waldenbuch-to-weil-der-stadt-/21346859/ . The route is presented as being 39.7km in length but when reversed and adding on the extra distance from home to the official start of the cycle way this resulted in being 49.5km for us.

At the end of the tour we wanted to spend some time relaxing and looking around the old town of Waldenbuch and so opted to check into a guest house for the night prior to undertaking the return journey. I'd be less than honest if I wasn't to say that another big attraction of Waldenbuch is the fact that a world renowned manufacturer of chocolate and probably the largest employer is also located in Waldenbuch, namely Ritter Sport https://www.ritter-sport.de/en_GB/index.html . True to form room was left in my rucksack in which to place a few blocks. :) Just as well that we were returning along the route the following morning as a rather hefty steak along with equally tasty sweet/pudding necessitated a few calories being burnt off.

The route follows a mixture of well paved cycle ways, forest tracks as well as agricultural tracks and as the name suggests, various sculptures/artwork either made of metal, plastic or wood are to found dotted along the route. In fact at present there are a total of 80 but if one were to stop and photograph each and every one we wouldn't have made any progress. Although not readily obvious from the pictures, but several of the art works have lighting built into them powered by a solar panel so that they are illuminated during the hours of darkness - the eggs and the red lined box being just two examples. The Parrot is located with several others in one of the towns with each of them depicting a different theme. For example this blue Parrot showing various pictures of Tuscany, Italy is entitled 'Holiday Dreams'.

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable tour and probably one that we shall repeat at some point later in the year when the landscape is displaying it's autumn colours.

In Chicago, it's Lake Shore Drive's annual "Bike The Drive" on the Sunday before Memorial Day. A 30 mile loop. A little wet this year, so it kept the crowds down. The road is shut down to cars between 5:30AM-10AM.

Shot with my $20 dashcam camera as I forgot the SD card for my real camera, Still easier to shoot while riding than with a phone
