Yup, metal grates for sure. I'm sure they were put there more with hikers in mind, but it benefits bikers equally well indeed!Like the (metal?) Grates on that wooden bridge! The wood gets very slippery after a couple of good rain storms. Had my bike slip out from under me on a wooden platform one time. No damage, but it sure surpirsed me!
Nice!
Thanks mate!Nice!
Columbia Gorge?
Correct, this was a back-up ride because the MUP where I had intended to ride was closed. Unfortunately for me to have an enjoyable ride in this hilly region I need a bike with assist. I'd prefer a light non-assist bike but that isn't that much fun for me anymore, especially after a winter's hibernation. What goes up must come down - this was the max speed recorded on the monitor, miles of 20-40+mph coasting (which means I also had to pedal up the same grades).Columbia Gorge?

Spent many years in the PNW and used to sailboard now and then at Hood River.Correct, this was a back-up ride because the MUP where I had intended to ride was closed. Hood River area is one of my favorites. There is a closed section of the historic columbia river highway from Hood River to Mosier that my wife and I have ridden dozens of times, I've ridden further to The Dalles. In the winter when it is grey and raining in the Portland/Vancouver area it is often sunny at Hood River, just west of there is usually where the rain cloud form. Oregon is working to connect the last section of historic highway MUP between Viento State Park and Hood River. When that is done it will be possible to ride from Portland to The Dalles and beyond without riding on the shoulder of I-84 (which is legal but I wouldn't want to).Spent many years in the PNW and used to sailboard now and then at Hood River.

Here is at Rowena Crest viewpoint midway between Mosier and The Dalles that I'm sure you are familiar with.
