Shadow Riding

I mentioned this in another post but I'm curious if anyone here "shadow rides". This is when one person follows an ebike rider with a vehicle. My brother and his wife travel frequently with their ebikes in tow and occasionally do it to break the monotony. A good bit of research is needed in advance of a trip to find suitable scenic back roads where relatively slow speeds and traffic aren't problems. They use a 12V inverter charger to regain some of the battery capacity while the other is in use. I mentioned this in the "Recharging During The Day On Tour" thread.

I did this with my brother earlier this season on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. One of us would hop scotch between scenic pull offs with the vehicle while the other rode the ebike. It's a good way to break up the boredom during a long trip when there are no suitable local trails to ride.

My wife is unable to ride, so she supports many of my day rides. She drops me off, we plan a meeting near a half way point, then plot the final pickup. She reads, walks, or finds a nature center or park to pass the time. She supported me on my Historic Route 66 ride on my 66th birthday, we both had a fun time. No need for battery charging in the van. I have a 500wh and 400wh pack. That could get me close enough to 100 miles if I wanted to go that far.
