Replacing Sora Derailleur on ST1 after accident

Well I bit it on my ST1. Took a very sharp left turn (more than 90 degrees) on very uneven/bumpy pavement and had my left foot/pedal down and it scraped on the ground and the bike spun out under me. I flew over the bike, landing on my belly/arms. I was able to get up! I'M ALIVE! No broken bones or missing teeth, but I probably cant ride for awhile as my leg and wrist hurt and bad road rash on my stomach! I inspected the ST1 and it looks good, but noticed the Sora rear derailleur is bent but it can still shift. Can I just buy another and swap them. Anyone know if I the "GS Medium Cage 9 speed" or the "SS Short Cage 9 speed" is the version I want and if it is literally a swap the new for the old (on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-Sora-9-speed-Bicycle-Derailleur/dp/B00IAZIFSQ). Thanks.

Sorry to hear you got hurt. Is it just the derailleur that got damaged? How is the torque sensor/derailleur hanger? If it's just your derailleur, I can send you the one I just took off of my new ST1 Platinum if you haven't already ordered one. It's actually not sora, it's an XT. It is a long cage but I can send the chain along too in case your chain is too short. Let me know if your interested.

I take it the torque sensor is inside the wheel well (where the derailleur) is attached. I have not inspected it closely and would not know what to look for. The bike did act funny (and the wheel was going full speed by itself when I went to pick it up), but it seemed OK after I turned things off and back on. But a quick survey reveals that the carbon fork is OK, frame is OK, left pedal scuffed up, exterior of Sora scuffed up and somehow the metal parts that surround the 2 gears in Sora are bent. Still too shook up to do a close inpection and pretty sure I wont be riding for at least a week or two. I would like your XT Derailleur and can put it on to see if it works. XT is better than Sora. I will Send you a message and we can work out how I can compensate you for your parts and shipping. It is worth a shot to see if it fits and works with the shifters.
Thanks!

Yes the torque sensor plate is what the derailleur attaches to and if you have a broken/bent derailler, it means that the derailleur hanger was probably under some stress as well, so you'll want to check it over to make sure it's not bent or cracked. It will be pretty obvious if it is bent but if the motor controls aren't acting funny when you ride it again then it's probably fine.

Sina, Today I received and incredible gift of your XT derailleur to replace my damaged Sora! THANK YOU! In about a week I will try to replace it and let you know. I've not quite recovered from the spill and have not had the motivation to check out the torque sensor and the replacement derailleur. Thanks again and I will be sure to let you know what the outcome is.
