Release the potential! How do you derestrict a Vado?

I have spent a lot of time on my Vado recently and like all of you, feel like when I’m just getting going the assistance comes to a sudden end. (Around 15mph).

The US market ones do nearly 30mph and it’s a solid bike on the road that can easily handle it.

There must be a way to increase the European ones via software without messing around with wiring kits or needing to tamper physically with anything. Especially as they come out of the factory being able to do more depending what part of the world you live in. I bet the bike dealers can adjust it using their dealer software, their contracts with Specialized probably prevent them from doing it!

E Bike Tuning has a good selection of derestricting equipment for Brose based systems HERE. I have not seen any posts re this gear so I can't recommend any of the equipment except to say that the supplier was reported as being very helpful. Contact them and see if they can help you.

Dealers have the software link that can change the limit to the US 28mph, but I doubt that they would. They can also change the wheel size to make the bike think it is going slower than it is, but why would they risk their dealership?

That Planet3 option looks very interesting. However, of course I have to go and make it unworkable for me! I had a horror show of problems with my rear wheel falling apart this last few weeks, spokes would come off on every ride. So my rear wheel is now replaced with a Mavic wheel and it seems like Planet3 need it to be the stock one. Just my luck.

I like the idea that the dealer software can do it, just a case of catching them at the right time on the right day.

Being a speed nut, I can say that you can mess with this stuff, on a closed road of course.

If you mess with this stuff, say goodbye to warranty and any dealer support for the most part. It's a rough thing to say, I know, but you're playing with fire. Your best bet is to maybe try and get a USDM bike used? Not sure if or how feasible that is.

Edit: I say that as a dealer. I come from a motorcycle dealership background, no different than folks wanting us to "unlock" their ecu before the manufacture said so (BMW S1000RR's for example). It can lead to catastrophic engine failure and void of warranty, and potentially loss of dealer franchise.
