Priority just released a second battery option for the Current.

When looking at ebikes, I had a lot of criteria that I wanted to meet. Unfortunately I couldn't find one that had everything I wanted. I ended up going for the Priority Current which ticked every box for me, except it didn't have a second battery. I still ended up getting it, because it offered so much else at an amazing price. However, now it looks like they offer a second battery too.

They responded. It's actually 48V, 12Ah. That price tag seemed fine when compared to second batteries I saw from other electric bike companies. Evelo charges $800 for an 11.6 Ah second battery wtih the Atlas. Dost charges $700 for a 10.4Ah second battery with the Kope/Drop. So I didn't think twice about that.

Are those Aliexpress batteries good quality?

The first one is Eunorau. I'm sure you have seen EBR reviews on them.
It's powered by Samsung 35E cells.

The second one is ChamRider, which is popular among hobbyists and custom ebike builders.
I see them on ebike YouTube channels, but I do not have personal experience with it.

In comparison to Priority battery, I think the quality is similar.
I don't know who builds Priority battery? Is it built by DLG?

and $700 for 10.4Ah? I'm not sure about that.
As you may know EM3EV is one of the best battery builders, and even at 52V 17Ah, they don't charge nowhere near $700.
That's interesting. I am not that knowledgeable about custom built bikes and the batteries that people use. I know that Priority's battery can be wired to work with the primary battery. Would that work with these third party batteries too?

I was talking about Evelo and Dost, not EM3EV. They both sell secondary battery options with their bikes and they are the prices that I mentioned.

Here is a recent review of the Priority Current:
https://www.t3.com/us/reviews/priority-current-electric-bike

The Priority Current battery is rated at 504 WH. I'm staring at the actual battery as I type this. (I purchased my Current in early August, 2021. I can't say for certain that Priority is still using the same exact battery). If I understand the basic "on paper" formula correctly, that translates to about a 25 mile range. As a practical matter though, I get a reliable 40-50 mile range, closer to the lower end on gravel, and higher number on pavement. (I live in mountainous New England and weigh 165 lbs., for reference). I keep PAS between 2 and 3 on average. However, the author of the recently published review linked above, had this to say:

Despite a claimed charge cycle of 30-60 miles, I barely got to the low end of that estimate on my initial rides, and that’s with keeping it at very low assist levels.
I didn't see a comment section underneath the linked review, so I responded here.

The Current's original battery also uses Samsung 35E cells. It's built by these folks https://vdbattery.com/

Not mentioned on the Forum, but available for order from Priority, is this "Spare Battery" which lets you swap out for the Current's primary. Could be a decent (if slightly more cumbersome to install) and $200 cheaper alternative to a full second battery + rack option.

Yes! This has always been an option, but it is known to be hard to get. It's often out of stock, or only one color is available. Right now, for example, only white is available.

Is the battery even externally visible once installed? I imagined it gets "inserted" into the drop tube and thereby remains unseen. But then again, if that were the case, why would they offer different colors? LOL

It is! The bottom of the drop tube is essentially the battery.
