Following our local July 4 parade, noticed our local police
on these fine bikes 😉:

The officer I spoke to (and who I got permission to take the picture from): says the department has 6 of them! Our town is pretty small, so that's a lot!

I'm guessing they bought them with COVID-19 money 😉😉😉

I live near the Silver Comet trail I enter in Paulding county. They have 2 or 3 officers. The one I have met and speak with on occasions got a Vado Police version this year. It is a class 3 from the local shop where I will be getting my bikes worked on. He and I spoke of ebikes prior and I even think he bought it and got reimbursed. I showed him my new Watt Wagon , he did not want to ride for insurance reasons he said. I told him I had done 40 on the road and we agreed I wanted to keep my trail privileges and would behave on the trail. actually I said all that. he wasn’t real concerned as he knows I am responsible, his only concern is safety. he did say he has arrest someone using it.

in conjunction with the bike they have one of the miniature smart for 2 style vehicles that fits on 1 lane of the trail they also use, looks funny when I see it , out of place seeing park police markings on the little thing.

I haven't seen cops on Ebikes yet were I live, but they do patrol the neighborhoods on nice kitted out bikes.

This happen a couple weeks ago...
So I skip out of work to go to the plaza, which is close by to go and pick up some beer.

As I'm riding down the street I notice there are three cops riding ahead of me.
They have to stop at an intersection and I pull up behind them. Two male cops and a female cop.
The female cop looks behind her and says "hello, nice bike is that electric?"
I tell her "yes" and ask why they don't have electric bikes.

One of the male cops laughs and says it not in the budget.

The light turns green we all pull away. I state "passing on the left." One of the cops jokingly replies "HEY A SPEEDER LETS GET HIM!"
I looked back at them and said "good luck with that" and left those cops in my dust.

So good to see them riding, though I would get the department to spring for an R&M. There are significant positives for community policing from a relatable bike, and in Cities faster response times. Wonder what the unmarked under covers will use?

Maybe they share the bikes in shifts and a seat can be a very personal thing.

It is great to see the Police on electric bikes. They can better interact with the community while covering a lot of ground and without contributing to greenhouse gases. It is perfect for crowded downtown areas, public events, trails and parks. Back up cars could carry spare batteries.

Yep. Think about the Mounted Police. Without the clean up detail.

Harleys. Why not?

This is actually the first time I've ever seen them - thinking maybe they only use them to patrol special events, like the parade - which would be a shame!

Looks like a good ( notprofitable?) use of Covid money.
