Plug shows signs of melting?

Unfortunately I was unable to locate a certification record to UL 2849 safety standard for the overall kit and will have a member of UL Solutions reach out to their HQ to discuss since they do have other products that are UL certified.

As others earlier stated only use the charger specified by the manufacturer so please do contact Bafang for replacement and if there is any UL certification mark on the charger please have your family member report the incident at https://market-surveillance.ul.com/.

This might help. It is the charger with description.

This is what Bafang gave?

Can you take a photo of any other markings on the other side of the charger?

All the markings in the photo sent are self-declared and not issued by an independent 3rd party. If there is no safety certification of the charger, recommend that you do not use it.

Sorry, that is what we got from bafang.

So for the Bafang supplied battery charger I recommend reporting to saferproducts.gov so the consumer product safety commission can look into it directly.

For the replacement charger, I can not comment on what to replace, as part of an independent third party certification company I can not recommend any specific manufacturer.

If the e-bike had been UL 2849 certified from Bafang, it is required that all major sub-system and components to have their safety certification and reduces the risk of electric shock, fire, or explosion. Recommend you look to source that for you and your family, certified equipment. It would not be sound advice to anyone to purchase a self-declared uncertified refrigerator, space heater, toaster, or other home product. Similarly this applies to e-bikes. The electrical product should be UL 2849 certified.
