wondering what type of homemade electric bike you built? And the cost. People paying 5 to $10,000 on a bicycle just hurts my brain thinking about it. I myself have blinkers brake lights parking light headlight side baskets and speedomeator. 750 W rear wheel hub and a 20 amp hour 48 volt li-po battery. I live in the part of Tennessee where the roads are very thin so that's the reason for this type of build. Up here going up the large heels and all I managed 12 to 14 miles per charge with some pedal assist I would imagine if I pedal more I can see 20 miles out of the battery. Which to me is pretty impressive of course I've never had an electric bike or even considered one till this past year. I'll cruise around at about 15 miles per hour the wheel hub is quiet and is capable of pulling the front wheel off the ground if you're not careful. I am guessing some people will say that if a bike cost a lot of money it will ride better and last longer for me only time will tell I don't have anything against the expensive bicycles I just cannot even imagine what the markup is on those things as I have approximately a total of $780 in my complete build. Please don't think I'm knocking the expensive bikes I'm not it's just in my case I simply cannot see putting that kind of money out. None-the-less whether you build your bicycle are you bought it they're fun either way.

I enjoy putting motors on bikes almost as much as riding them.

My most recent ebike build. Still needs some cables shortened. Bike was set out in neighbor's trash. I didn't really want it, but my wife said take it before the scrap pickers come by. Added $160 ebikeling motor, but had to put in a $75 KT controller with LCD. It can run on anything, but I use a pair of $35 36V 4AH hoverboard batteries. So call it $325. It's getting a new derailleur this week. $15.

This blue bike cost me about $1000. Our old Diamondback Wildwood with BBS02 mid drive and 48V rack battery. Will do about 28 mph. Rarely go over 18 mph. Took it to Colorado and it climbed every paved bike path. I did put disk brakes on the front wheel. Another $100 for a new wheel and brake hardware.

I only rode this twice in the snow. Two motors. Two batteries. The bike was only $79 from Walmart, but I spent a lot of money to upgrade the heavy steel components, buy decent tires, etc. It originally had decorative v-brakes. This thing eventually pushed past $1600, but it was spent over 13 months, so not so painful. Simce this pic, I've taken off the front motor, and will put that on another bike.

I have built more, but my first one was only $500 for motor and battery. For a lower profile, I'll take off the Dolphin and run a smaller battery in a bag on the rack. My Ryobi weedwhacker battery will give me a hour at 14 mph, while one of those hoverboard bombs will get me 90 minutes at same speed.

That is a heck of bike collection. But I am afraid in the near future they will pass a law you have to have a drivers licesens for bikes. For now there fun and get excise also.
