Picture rotation issue

I am having issues with posting pictures (images) on this forum. I think it has to do with metadata. When I post a correctly oriented photo, I am taking the picture with my phone held horizontally (landscape mode). With the incorrectly oriented photos, I am taking the picture with my phone held vertically (portrait mode). Either the picture metadata isn't telling Zenforo that it's in that mode, or Zenforo isn't recognizing it.

My forum photos are taken with a Samsung Galaxy S25+. Before I post the photo, I resize it using the Windows Photos app on my Windows 11 computer, in order to get the image size <2.0MB. I am viewing the forum using Mozilla Firefox.

I'd like to use this thread to help diagnose the issue and figure out a workaround. Admins can delete it afterwards if needed.

This photo was taken with the phone horizontal, resized, and posted using the Attach Files button-Insert-Full Image.

The photo is rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise.

This photo was taken with the phone vertical, resized, and posted using the Insert Image (Ctrl-P) button in the reply toolbar. I clicked to select the image from Windows Explorer.

Same issue.

Well. I use a Samsung S24 Ultra. I make any photo rotation in the Gallery. To decrease the photo size I use the app called Snapseed to Open then Export the photo. (Snapseed is free). I have set Snapseed to Export 720 px photos, which are very small in the file size. No issues with the Forum.

If I use a PC, I use IrfanView to resize the photo to 960 px on the horizontal or 720 px on the vertical, then copy and paste the photo into the Forum. No issues.

Copied and pasted your photo into IrfanView. Rotated right (R key on the keyboard). Resized (Ctrl-R) to 720 px on the vertical. Copied and pasted back into my post.

This photo was taken with the phone vertical, resized using Windows Paint, and posted using the Attach Files button-Insert-Full Image.

This is the correct orientation.

I still believe that this is a metadata problem. At least I have a workaround.

Thanks, Stefan. Windows Paint is an awful application. I'll try some other Windows photo applications that I use with my mirrorless.

Admins, could we please keep this thread open until I finish working this out?

This photo was taken with the phone vertical, resized using Windows Image Resizer, uncheck Ignore Orientation, custom 2000x3000 size, and posted using the Attach Files button-Insert-Full Image.

This is a workable solution. It lets me batch resize before posting, and automatically renames the resized file. The image quality is excellent.

Admins, thanks for letting me figure out this workaround. You can delete this thread if you like.

I hate big pictures in posts to be honest with you. They require scrolling as they are bigger than the screen resolution and are bad for the viewer's perception.
I appreciate the big(gest) pictures in the “show us your rides” thread, which is where this came up with stompandgo’s pix. Guys like yourself, Stefan, chargeride, Rab and others have some magnificent ride photos to share.

Elsewhere, I absolutely find it annoying, but not there. I think that’s the whole point of the thread. I find the pictures highly motivational and it’s one of the reasons I stick around here.

I often find it useful to zoom in on photos posted here. When I do that on my phone — by tapping the photo first, then spreading it with my fingers — some images get much fuzzier than others.

Isn't that an argument for uploading at higher resolution?

Easiest way to do all if you are using your phone for photos is to view the photo on your phone and then take a screenshot of it. It should then bring up the option to edit that screenshot so if it needs rotation or cropping or any other adjustment, do it then. You can also crop by zooming in on the photo before taking the screenshot. All this is already in the phone so no need for a "Specialized" app.
The screen shot is already a reduced file size for uploading to the forum.

I want to do forum-required edits in batch. Select all. Resize. Save. Compose reply and upload. I can't do that on my phone. I also want to keep the original full resolution photo.

I don't know of an app that does batch editing on your phone, not to say that it doesn't exist. But I also don't post tons of photos.
For batch edits I've always used PhotoShop on my laptop.
