So I started martial arts in my late teens about a half century ago ... switched to Tai Chi about 15 or 20 years later ... never tested ... means I've been a white belt all that time, I guess ..
Eh, belts are to hold yur pants, color is moot.

A white belt is still new and clean,a brown is frayed and dirty, and a black belt is often filthy. I say just buy a new white belt occassionally and stay a beginner for life. And staying out of fights is both beginner and master level stuff, really.

ECKB (English Contact Kickboxing) as a teen, Wado Ryu in college, TKD a few years ago with my kids. Soccer, always! Badminton (not the US, backyard style!!) from young through college. Swim team as a youngster. Now it's tandem SOT kayaking, iSUP (paddleboard), SCUBA, hiking, and pre-COVID I learned to play basketball at lunchtimes with some co-workers!

Martial arts, often easy to learn but a lifetime to master.

They tell me that golf is like the martial arts in being easy to learn and difficult to master. Can't speark for golf, but the Martial part of TaiChi is of no interest to me anymore. So I do my slow silly looking workouts and mental wanderings.

My interests are solely in acquiring & circulating chi, herbal medicine, acupuncture, & brush painting. I´m a pretty lousy painter.
Anything related to combat is purely incidental. Belts? My nephew got a black belt in karate at age 8;; belts are overrated.
