Opinions on Gio Italia?

Hi!

I'm new to the whole e bike thing, and I recently bought a Gio Italia Premium for my skipthedishes job. However, It already has issues with the trunk not closing sometimes and the battery disconnecting if I hit a pothole too hard (and I've literally only owned this thing for a week). Plus the whole thing feels ridiculously cheaply made. I don't even think the battery indicator is working properly. Yet I see so many people riding this around Toronto and loving it. Is mine just a defective model? It's genuinely nerve racking riding this thing because I'm scared any second now it'll somehow break which is NOT something you want while you're doing deliveries.

Also I noticed that there isn't really a ... welcoming? place for e bikes such as this. Since it looks like a vespa, people on the road hate you because they think you should be going faster (since they don't get that it's an e bike and is capped at 30 km/h), and on the bike lane alot people think your some crazy biker whose cheating the system by using the lane (since they also don't seem to get it's an ebike). Plus, cops are constantly stopping me to ask why its not licensed. It's quite annoying, and I'm confused how so many other people are riding these things without issues like this? Should I just sell it at this point and get a Gotrax?

Thank you!

Do you pedal it to make it go? If not, you want something like a scooter forum.

Try a Vespa forum or Modern Buddy forum. If they can't help you, maybe they know of specific escooter forums.

I can't speak to the issues with your Gio, but just an observation: here in Toronto, I see far more delivery people on e-bikes, as opposed to e-scooters.

The two most popular delivery bikes that I see are the NCM Moscow and the Amego EV bikes probably account for about 20-25% of the delivery "fleet" out there. They cost about the same as something like the Gio, and are more versatile in many ways, IMHO.

I'm not a food delivery person, but I think there's a few reasons why e-bikes are more popular than e-scooters:

1) because they're bikes, they go where bikes go with less hassles (including enforcement and just locking up)
2) because they're bikes, they use standard bike parts for easier servicing (other than electronics of course)
3) the bigger tires are more stable during inclement weather
4) a dead battery on a busy day doesn't immobilize you (more common in cold weather where battery range drops).
