At age 71 after 50 years of riding ,road biking racing in teens, Recreational riding 30 to present day, Bikes - Peugeot Aravis , Trek Madone,Dolan L,Etape wasn’t able to keep up with group any more
Finally decided to get an E bike would have loved a Carbon Bianchi,Scott,Cannondale but thought a bit expensive If didn’t work out
So settled on aluminium Lapierre with 105 group set changed saddle and tyres to Continental 4 seasons and put mudguards on After 4 months very impressed able to hold my own especially on climbs with guys 20 years younger, struggle a little bit at 20 mph but hang on for inclines and comfortable again
Concerns about X35 motor and steep hills were ill founded as no problem on 15% if low gears used and fairly high cadence
Nothing here in Northumberland has defeated me or the bike
Also had concerns with weight of bike compared to Carbon lightweights but no issues for me
Got the Range Extender battery and good for 70 mile rides at 14.5mph average
Looking forward to a lot of longer rides when summer arrives

Welcome to the forum. A great rundown of your experience and situation. I just joined the forum a few days ago. Having a similar background I can relate. I am 69, and decided to give up group rides with the Covid. Our local group was the “Chain Gang”. We were based on a weekly slow ride of 19-20. My Madone 4.5 has lots of dust now. You should check out the Propel Ebikes YouTube where they profile top racing teams now are using a retired racer. They use him on an Ebike to train the newbies. With the edge of an Ebike the veteran can give the up and coming an effective training on tactics etc. My Ebike now took a different route. I built up a step through that my wife could ride. And I could use for trips to the stores and recreation. Replace the car at times. One problem she is still afraid of it’s power and speed. Working on that. I would love to take it out and anchor the peloton in an upright position - at least for awhile. Again Welcome.
