I was hoping someone would ask about my new avatar photo, but alas no one. That picture is me in September 1960 near my 8th birthday, on my hand-me-down Schwinn Panther. Skip tooth chainring. I looked up the serial number, but forgot the year. They stopped using the skip tooth in 1954, so very near my age. The fun part is I found it in a shed when I moved my Mom to assisted living. It had a rough life after I stopped riding it, so will give it some TLC and bring it back to life. I have to remove some farm paint, and a crazy seat mod my little brother did to it, but will be a fun project this winter.

Awesome story, rich! Keep us updated with pics as you do the restoration, please. I have fond memories of an old red kick scooter with wooden grips that survived a couple of us cruising around on it decades ago.

Oh yeah, Pea Picker, Orange Krate, etc. The cool Schwinn series of Stingrays with the long front fork and the suspension spring in the front. Those were some cool bikes back then. Thanks for mentioning.

Sorry for missing your new avatar. Don't forget the BBSxx mid-drive when you get done refurbishing it. A front hub would look great if it would fit.
