Magura MT5 Issues?

I'm curious if any Watt Wagons owners have similar issues with their Magura MT5 brakes. I am experiencing some drumroll on my Frey CC but it seems others with the MT5 brakes have similar issues, apparently due to the shape of the rotors. The fix seems to be to use blue pads or upgrade to a rotor with more consistent pad coverage. I am posting in the WW forum since I pre-ordered the superbike which comes with these brakes and I am hoping it's just an isolated issue.

@tomdav, what's "drumroll", is that a heavy squeak sound of some sort?

I posted a video clip in that post on ES. It mostly manifests as i am coming to a stop, presumably because the pad coverage on the rotor isn't consistent as the wheel rotates and starts to sound like a rolling drum at lower speed. Braking at higher speed I don't hear anything until I approach a stop.

No issues here with my UCP... only have about 500 miles on it.

Is this something that appears after some real usage or is it noticeable right away?
edit: I see your Frey CC is brand new so that answers my question.

pushkar, what rotors do you use? On the CC Frey used Storm HC but I see Magura has MDR rotors that are ebike rated. Frey also used off brand PM adapters (due to supply issues) which I think may also be contributing to my issues. I suppose the 203mm rotors on the CC could also be an issue. I recall Roloff stipulates a maximum of 180 mm in the rear, not sure why, but an off chance that larger rotors manifest such issues.

Hmm.we use Storm HC as well. All parts stock from Maguara (including brake pads). May be the brake pads are the issue ?

We have 203mm Magura pads on the Crosstour (front) but we use those with Hayes Dominion A4 brakes. No problem with pairing on those either.

I just realized the roholoff uses a specific rotor, so you wouldn't be using Storm HC in the rear. Looks to be a rotor with more consistent pad coverage. I only have the issue on my rear brake. One of the guys on ES seems to think it's the shape of the rotor causing the drumroll.

Actually the rohloff rotor is manufactured by Magura!
