Anybody considering any Ebike in these categories should watch this comparison review.

I would be happy with either, but everybody has a deal breaker, and throttle is it for me, after owning an Ebike with one, I would never want to be without one.
They are just too much fun even if you only max out at 20 MPH.

But one thing that is awesome about the Levo is the fully customization available to the different PAS levels, Specialized app has that dialed down to perfection.
If anybody owns a specialized and has played around with it I would like to hear from you about about how good it is .

I have a 2018 base Turbo Levo. I very seldom change the setting after a couple of changes. Because of my age 70, and an arthritic knee, my setting are usually 30%, 65%, 100%. The 30% makes starting from stop sign and on slopes easy. I live where every ride is either up or down with some flat in the valley. I live on hill, its down to town or up to the forest.

The Specialize warranty is a full 2 years. I had a battery replaced under warranty. The local Specialized dealer is trained to work on e-bikes.

This is why I love Bafang midrive
powered bikes, they just get up and go

Clear winner imo, not to mention you could purchase multiple X1s for what the Specialized cost,I'm poor so I want the most for my cash.

Thanks for sharing.

I must give credit to the reviewer because he was unbiased for the most part.

He could have added one more point about the vast dealer network of specialized (5 points) and Specialized does offer lifetime warranty on the frame + 2 years warranty on the electrical in comparison to the 90 days warranty from Luna. That would have changed the equation a bit more.

Luna actually has a longer warranty on the X1, presumably because it's not a Luna product, I believe it's made by Dengfu. I thought the reviewer did a good job as well. I would not say one is a clear winner, I've ridden both bikes, they each have their strengths and weaknesses. I have an X1 on order as I wanted to give it another chance with the quiet gear. I returned my X1 last year as I could not handle the noise.

The specialized is an awesome bike but for my money I would definitely go with the X1

I like the M600 motor and think it is smooth enough for me, did not notice the noise on the one that I had-but do not know if the one had the nylon gears or the metal ones

it was supposed to have metal so it could be that I just don’t hear it as much as other people

definitely hear my ultra motor more

All that being said I think the Brose is a beautiful motor but not enough to pay $4000 or more for it

Does anyone know the max load capacity for the X1? I can't find it on the Luna site

Very fair point , have no idea what the ludicrous option costs because I would never order it

I would get the silent gears because they seem like a good option

still think the X1 has more power available than the brose even at the standard 750 watt program

Yep, Ludi is $300 (not worth it, stock M600 power is plenty and Ludi tends to overheat the motor and consume battery). Silent treatment is $200. They also compared the current promotional price of the X1 to the Turbo Levo MSRP. A fairer comparison would be to the recent Turbo Levo sale prices after rebate ($7447.50 for the Expert Carbon and $4,477.50 for the base model). Shipping is also $150 for the X1 although you don't pay sales tax outside of CA so going to be a net benefit for most.

what is the weight on the specialized base model? is it the same as the carbon?

On the carbon model, only the front triangle is carbon, the rear swingarm is aluminum.
On the base model, the front triangle is also aluminum and I have seen numbers like 50 lbs for a medium frame.

Still 5 pounds less then the luna bike but I would never buy the specialized even though it’s a super nice bike, I want the throttle, extra power of the bafang and I like the M600 motor

If you want a bike for challenging terrain the more refined torque sensing of the turbo levo may be a significant benefit. This is one case where throttle myopia might well lead to the wrong decision.

For me personally I disagree with that, I’ve owned the
M600 and think it’s fine for anything I would do with it

good chance I will get another one but not this particular bike

this might be true for someone who is doing super technical trails and is a high-level mountain biker

I’m not buying either of these bikes at all, just saying out of the two I would pick the luna

and I think the point of this whole thing was that for the price difference the Luna is a good buy

and I am not getting into another throttle argument so I won’t post on this thread again

it never ends

Why broach the subject if you don't want to discuss? The whole point here? To have an objective discussion about the pros and cons for those considering either of these bikes. Throttle made no difference in my decision to order the X1. Price and additional power ultimately swayed me. I did not waste my money on the ludi controller Banking that innorace will work similar magic with the m600 that they did with the ultra to refine the torque sensing and hopefully provide app capability. Bonus points if they can improve efficiency. I am more concerned with battery capacity as there are a few options to add a spare beyond carrying a backpack.

I noticed Luna reduced the torque rating to "over 95" but the M600 is rated at 120, I wonder if they had to dial it back for the plastic gear?

No, it's always read that way. Here is the original page cache from a year ago.

Not sure why they sandbagged the torque number but fibbed on so many other things like "Silent lightweight bike at less than 50 pounds". I think they were basing that on a prototype with smaller battery, carbon wheels, and nylon gear.
