Hello, I accidently set a password on my display and now I cannot access my parameters. I've tried a new display but no go. Would buying a new controller for the motor default/remove my password and allow me access? Brand is hjm, and model is joyrider.

Did you contact HJM for their take on this issue?

If it's a 4 digit password, there was one guy on this forum who just brute forced it. Started at 0000 and walked it up til it unlocked. Luckily, he set it for something in the 1200 range.

Yes, I contacted HJM. They suggested a new display claiming that would resolve the issue but it didn't work. Other than that, they weren't to knowledgeable. Brute force might work, but would take so much time and writing, lol. I'm thinking of trying a new motor controller but don't know if that would work. That would only cost me $150 or so.

a new motor controller
That could do it, maybe. Some systems the password is stored in the display, with others the display is just the input device to program the controller. My thinking is that you likely did not enter a whole new password. You just had it off by one digit. And at that, it is likely off by one bump up or down. So, if it was 1,2,3,4, first try for example 2,2,3,4 and then 0,2,3,4 and so on, moving to the right.

I'm pretty sure my password is stored somewhere other than the display due to the fact I bought a new one and still have the same problem. I believe you may be correct about not entering a whole NEW password but I bought this bike about a year ago and can't remember ANYTHING of what it may be. I was so excited when I first rode it, that I didn't think of it happening when I started messing with it, lol. It really is a bummer to not be able to explore the whole capacity of this this bike. And the company I bought it from doesn't seem to be much help. I think the actual manufacturer is in another country and the only ppl that I can connect with are the selling company in LA. 😔

Thank you all for your input though. It really does inspire me to keep trying. I'm sure this thread will be able to help me more than customer service and so far it has.

The bike must work otherwise. A Google search for HJM+set password shows you having this problem in July, 2024 in another forum. Are you sure you are following the right procedure to enter a password into the display?

Some displays I've owned come with a default password (many bafang displays use 1919), but I think the smart system design is to ship with none,

Yes, the bike does work. The problem happened tge second day I had the bike last July. I've tried all default codes that hjm sent me and nothing. They suggested a new display, and nothing. When I first got it, it had no password and I was able to get into parameters but while messing with it, I set a password and confirmed it. I thought I was adjusting the speed, but I remember that the screen I was on had 4 zeros(to enter a password).
