BE AWARE-IF YOU WANT TO BUY AN AVENTON Bike
Based on the behavior of the bike and the E34 “Power-on password initialization failure” error, it appears the bike’s ECU/controller initialization or authentication state may have become corrupted. The bike is also unable to properly bind/connect through the Aventon ecosystem, suggesting a possible firmware, controller, or ECU/display/app synchronization failure.
Because modern Aventon e-bikes rely on electronic pairing and startup authentication between the controller, ECU, display, and application ecosystem, a failed firmware event, failed synchronization process, or corrupted controller state can render the bike electronically inoperable during startup initialization.
The fact that Aventon’s proposed remedy is controller replacement further suggests the issue resides within the controller/ECU initialization or authentication system rather than a traditional mechanical issue.
Plain English language:
You are on a ride, you cannot move your bike, you are FUC*ked and can't do a thing.
Just so anyone who may be considering the purchase.....a real world reality
The bike (LEVEL 4 ADV) could be designed to not require communication with “the aventon ecosystem”
Not everything needs to be online / IoT. What happens when Aventon goes out of business and the servers that host the “ecosystem” shutdown?
If I’m understanding the problem correctly, and the current state of “electronic lock” on new Aventon products, this is exactly a reason to boycott the company.
Exactly. Just like VanMoof. IF you are a hacker and know how to hack the firmware, you might revive the bike (like some VanMoof owner have done), but this is the entire point. There should be FULL disclosure PRIOR to making a purchasing decision and if you willingly accept the fact that you are locked into an ecosystem, then it's on you. Otherwise, stay away and don't give it any thought.
Because it was not disclosed PRIOR to the purchase that you would have to live in the walled garden of Aventons' rule. A bike is a bike, and a lot of the technology is cool, but when a manufacturer dictates the ability to turn it on, then it's a different story. You either get it or you don't. Does not mean it has to be accepted. Hence, prior disclosure that should have been part of the knowledge base of info that is provided when deciding to choose this bike.
Aventon dictates the capability of moving the bike in a failed handshake with their server in the cloud. No authentication token, no access, locked, inoperable bike. Does the sales literature that they produce inform the customer of these requirements before the sale as well as after or only after a catastrophic event?

it seems like you have problems with most everything you buy ! have you wondered sometimes what the common thing between all these products you try is? o_O

i've had a vanmoof for 6+ years i think, through the bankruptcy and whoever the new owner is and it still works just fine..... internet, no internet, phone, no phone... i've replaced the front wheel/motor, chain and rings with a belt, etc. it's just a bike.
