Lectric XP

Just ordered two xp’s and was wondering if anyone knew what the factory handlebar width is, looking to upgrade them on both bikes

It is 22 1/2” measured straight across the handlebar to the outside of the grip. I replaced mine with a larger one that is 25”.

It is much brighter than the original but does not look as nice on the bike.

Also may want connectors unless you just splice into the harness, the link was posted earlier as well but I can’t seem to locate in my order history.
 
It is the Samebike XP but that's in the Netherlands.
Strangely I cannot find It China.

It seems the Lectric has more power but they don't ship outside USA
Thanks. I was having a hard time locating it online as well. Does your bike have a 350 watt motor? The Lectric XP has a 500 watt motor.

It’s easy, just need some Allen wrenches to loosen the controls. Getting the grips off is probably the hardest part. I slipped a little screwdriver underneath and worked some glass cleaner under the rubber until I could pull them off.

I guess I could totally replace the stock grips as an alternative? Any suggestions for that?
 
Has anyone used a GPS tracker or recommend one? I was taking a look at the boomerang cyclotrac v1. $29 to buy and $4 a month. The problem is that the lectric xp doesn't have water bottle screw holes. They offer a bike rack clamp and the device would be hidden under the pannier bags but I'm just not quite ready to pull the trigger. Anyone have experience with the boomerang cyclotrac? https://boomerangbike.com/

OK...here is info needed for the suspension fork upgrade. I'll give a quick shopping list followed by more details on everything below.

Quick list:
1. Pasak P35 20 inch suspension fork (Pasak P35 20 inch air suspension fork on AliExpress)
2. Neco H185 Headset (Neco H185 Headset on Ebay)
3. Spacer [OPTIONAL] (Steerer tube threadless spacers)
4. Adjustable folding steam (Adjustable folding bike stem)

More details:
1. Suspension fork: I used the Pasak P35 20 inch air suspension fork. This is an air shock and so far I think it's been working great. I'm not a bike guru...so I can't comment on the quality vs a high end name brand shock like RockShox, RST, etc...but I'm very pleased and works great for the purposes of this style of bike. You can buy these on ebay and aliexpress. I got mine from AliExpress.

I wasn't super impressed with JKlapin Biking. Their communication was usually pretty delayed and they didn't ship the second shock. After finally shipping it, the shock was returned to sender for some reason...all in all, I wouldn't say that they should be avoided...but there was definitely room for improvement.

Rubin bike doesn't have as much feedback...but my service was awesome from them! So maybe they are hungry being a newer merchant...but with my single purchase I was beyond happy.
It should be also noted, that the Pasak shock comes in an air and an oil variant. The oil variant is slightly cheaper...but should still work if you want a little less performance... For what it's worth, I'm almost certain the Rattan Fat Bear Plus ebike comes with the Pasak oil based suspension fork....downgrade from my air variant.
At the time, this appeared to be the only shock that worked which I could find reliably (20 inch, fat tire, etc). Now it appears there is one more shock, the RST Guide: https://www.biktrix.com/products/rst-guide-fork
I can't comment on the RST shock as I just barely saw it a couple days ago. It's the shock found on Aventon Sinch bike.

2. Neco H185 Headset. This was my happiest discovery. After a bunch of searching, I finally figured out the exact headset used on the production Lectric XP...it's a Neco H184 headset (this should be true for production XP's...it may not be true for early prototypes as pictures I saw of those looked different than my headset). The nice thing is that the H184 and H185 are almost identical to each other. The H184 is a threaded headset and the H185 is the threadless version. So this works out great because I didn't have to change the cups in the steerer tube! Basically I just bought the H185 headset...but really only needed the crown race (simply because I didn't wanna take the old one off the original XP rigid fork), and the couple of parts at the top of the headset that are specific to threadless variant. 3. Steerer tube threadless spacers. This part is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL and not needed at all. The only reason I got this was because I have commitment issues ;) Using a spacer allowed me the piece of mind that if I happened to cut my fork's steerer tube too short...I could remove the spacer and have a second/third chance, haha. This also could be a good option if anyone wants to raise their handlebars further...

4. Adjustable folding stem. The folding stem that comes on the Lectric XP is for a threaded fork and won't work with the threadless fork. So you need to swap that folding stem as well. There are potentially a bunch of different varieties that would work that can be found on ebay/amazon/aliexpress. I was trying to find one that folds to the right (same as original). There are other merchants on AliExpress that sale the same stem.
I don't like this stem quite as much as the original. The original utilized more welds and feels a bit more sturdy. This stem is not bad...I'd give it an 8/10 whereas the original would have been a 10/10. I did find what I think is our original stem but in a threadless version...but still digging into that. I'll update if I find more info on it.


And that's basically it. You really only need the 3 parts (4 if you want the spacer).
I'm finishing up a how-to video that I'll post on youtube to give step by step instructions. But it was all rather easy. You basically remove the old folding stem, take off brake/fender/light, remove the old fork, put on the new fork, put on brake/light, and put on the new folding stem.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before but has anyone estimated how much using the lights takes from the battery? Would they drain more than a mile or two from a full charge?

I'd also like to know if anyone has tapped into the system to be able to run a smartphone or GPS? Any estimates on how much power they'd use?
 
Does anyone use or know of a compatible higher amp charger to charge the battery faster?

I bought a 48V 3A Luna Mini Charger (https://lunacycle.com/48v-3amp-luna-mini-charger/). It is actually pretty nifty, as you can adjust the final charge percentage (as they say it's better to charge the battery to 80% on a normal basis). Luna support is also pretty good. But in hindsight, if I were you, I would go for the higher model Luna 48V Advanced Charger (https://lunacycle.com/luna-charger-48v-advanced-300w-ebike-charger/). Not only can you control final charge level, but you can also control the speed at which it charges, 1-5 amp if I am not mistaken.

Bear in mind a couple of things. Your original bike manufacturer (Lectric) will most likely not approve of your use of these chargers. Also, charging it at a higher speed, while convenient, is more detrimental to the battery over the long term, or at least general consensus is. That is the beauty of the Luna Advanced charger, is you could top it up really quickly if you are in a pinch, or otherwise just keep it at 1amp and 80% if you like to trickle charge overnight for your morning commute. The Luna Mini charger can also adjust the amperage, but you have to like open up the box and adjust some potentiometer or something. Additionally, these Luna chargers (and lot's of other brands) use a different plug, so you will need to find some kind of pigtail adapter.

Remember, messing around with all this battery stuff is risky if you don't know what you are doing, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I am just reiterating what I have found over many hours of internet research as I, too, am also a newb at all this.

I know you said you opened up the battery, so was it 100% the purple LG M26 with the proper LG model labels? The other guy just said they were purple and probably M26. Any pics? If they are indeed M26 then we can draw nearly twice the current or at least up to 30amp easily.

Actually I do not have a Lectric XP, but I have a very similar (Chinese) model. If you dig through Aliexpress or Alibaba, you will find that these are all the same bikes made from the same design. Yes, they come from a few different factories in China, because the Chinese have no problem knocking off products from factories next door. They have no understanding of intellectual property. What makes Lectric so special is that they are US-based with US-based support. These bikes are expensive, and if you buy anything from Aliexpress or Alibaba, despite what the seller says and what the item advertisement says and what the Aliexpress website even says, these things do not come with any warranty whatsoever. When you buy from Lectric, you have someone you can actually call and talk to. If you live near by their warehouse, you have somewhere you can even go.

Anyways, here is a photo of what my battery looks like on the interior. I had a problem where the thing was not accepting a charge. The charger just kept clicking off as if it was full. Nor would it power up my bike. A multimeter to the connector at the hinge of the bike (not the plug for charging) showed a steady 42v. I took it too an ebike shop and they suspected the same thing I did, either a bad BMS or some bad cells. So they opened it up and did some individual testing and found that one group of four cells was bad (not sure if it was just one cell or all four). I asked for a photo just so I can know what these things look like on the inside. So here it is. Obviously Chinese knock-off Samsung cells I believe (https://baiguan-battery.en.alibaba....ectric_Bicycle_Li_Ion_18650_Battery_Cell.html). Alot of the Chinese manufacturers will claim they are legit LG or Samsung or whatever, but then they say that they had to put a label on the batteries over the official Samsung/LG logo for some kind of legal purpose. And if you open the batteries up, you will either find no label with no LG/Samsung logo, or a label with nothing under it. It's just how it is.

Unfortunately no bike shop around repairs batteries, so this is basically a block of uselessness to me now and I just had to buy another. Just thought I would share for anyone that is curious or if anyone is outside their warranty period and is a good 18650 hobbyist. Remember, as always, this is serious business dealing with these batteries, so don't touch them unless you know what you are doing. That is why I just took mine to a shop and if you are newb like me, probably you should too.

I don’t know how tall you are. I have long legs and am glad I bought the 400mm post. They really do work well.
