Lady cyclist killed in Davis involving juvenile on ebike...on the bike path.

They dont mean to harm people, they all think its fine and it wont happen to them.
Way too generous. They don't care about other people, period. In their minds, rules don't apply to them. They fancy themselves outlaws and wear full-face helmets for anonymity.

Just look at the reckless mass ride-outs they do, taking over busy public streets and bikeways with zero regard for other users. There's a whole YouTube subculture around this mentality.

And most could never afford these machines without parental funding.

Mob rule takes over in those rideouts, mob mentality is the scariest human tribal behaviour.
Ive seen perfectly rational, passive individuals turn into monsters in a mob.

Thats why I dislike crowds and , especially sporting events, in Europe they can turn nasty so quickly.

I do most of my riding on MUPs, rail trails in particular, there is a hierarchy when it comes to right of way. Horseback riders and dog-sleds are at the top, followed by pedestrians, cyclists, then motorized (ATVs, Motorcycles). The speed limit on the trails is 50kph, horses and dog-sleds included. On a 50k mid-week ride, I seldom encounter more than a dozen other trail users, mostly ATVs and other cyclists. I see a couple of horseback riders, but since I don't ride in the Winter months, I have yet to see any dog-sleds.

By and large, most trail users are respectful of others, with the motorized users slowing down when meeting someone on the trail.

She commuted to work and back on a regular bike. Details are scarce right now but I bet the kids parents are probably going to be sued. Kids shouldn't be allowed to ride ebikes on public ways. We all see them. They're nuts.
and agree! as I age I can see where a level of maturity starts, liberal parents are not helping.

Excellent outcome, well-written article for a change!

According to the sponsor, the proposed CA bill SB1167 will make it easier get charges like this to stick. It also puts the folks who sell these machines as legal ebikes at greater legal risk. About time.
I blame a lot of this on "Surron" and the like plus the "loopholes",the smug "loopholes" usually get shutdown, just because its not expressly forbidden does not make it right,I used to think 12 yrs and up were mature enough and responsible, now I have had an epiphany on these things( it took me long enough)

I've seen a "Heybike" commercial several times in the last few weeks demonstrating youth ripping around street. wheeling down the center of the road and lots more bad behavior. These weren't off road, they were on local city streets by youth demonstrating the bikes power and ability. The bike in question is an e-motorcycle, not an ebike but all these vehicles get lumped into one category "Ebike". This commercial paints a bad picture for the entire ebike community. I bet a lot of parents will buy this for their kids and call it an ebike and let them ride it unsupervised.
Heyike Villin, google it.
