Just for fun...

I really have to apologize. I've complained many a time that this Just for Fun thread's become anything but with all this political stuff. Stuff that definitely warrants serious discussion, just not here.

And then I go and start some political stuff myself. Sorry.

Sorry, I was being facetious. Corrected to make that clear.

The DOE is far from perfect, but we have no reason to think that privatization and religious control of K-12 education will serve the nation any better in the long run, and I have many reasons to think the opposite.

The Founding Fathers thought separation of church and state important for reason.
I figured that with the winking eye combo originally there; notice I didn't copy into my response. I am not for privatization of education. I do not mind businesses contributing (the company I worked for donated employees for higher level classes and $ for labs). I also don't mind religous organizations sponsoring education. I didn't, but my kids all went to "Catholic School", which we paid for.

My preference is to eliminate Federal DOE and fund completely at State/local level. I disagree it is a good idea to give the Federal DOE my tax dollars, they skim off their percent, then they give what's left back to the state/local DOEs.

IF the DOE created standards that applied the same to every student in the US, it might make sense. I grew up in NY State. We took standardized tests that I think were pretty universal across the country. I don't know if the Iowa Test of Basic Skills is still a thing or not.

Just because there are schools sponsored by religous organization, there is no conflict with the seperation between church and state you referred to. That seperation has to do with avoiding a national religion.
