A radio show called "On The Media devoted a half hour to that. The guy being interviewed, who escaped from Russia just before they clamped down is saying that it will take foreign involvement to change the way people are getting their information and their beliefs. Plus, at this time, no one dares to contradict the official talking points. It sounds like nobody ever will.
I think it's more that the three are probably just kids doing what they're told and that there's very little honor in how they are forced to be pawns in a maniacs delusions.

You got it. Somebody's kids are cannon fodder. The old men who start wars generally don't participate directly in the killing part.
Except when they're executed for war crimes which doesn't happen nearly as often as it should.
Hey we're taking their yachts away from them, isn't that enough? I guess maybe we could consider confiscating their private jets if the crimes are heinous enough.
