I think phone cases are getting crazy expensive

Best Buy--About 2 months ago I went into the local Best Buy that I was last in about, oh, over a decade-plus ago......back when a time when I would browse their CD section to check out the latest box set, being that Tower Records went under and out.

Completely different vibe and appearance upon walking in. I needed a new 110ac power supply for my laptop. It was enough to get help but I did wind up with what I thought was an overpriced power supply. I also asked the sales rep about a new battery for my HP laptop, being as I bought the laptop at that very Best Buy in 2011. Nope. No longer stocked and he offered no help as to getting a replacement except "check the internet".

Well, I did him one better and went to the Staples not far from there and got the help I needed. Best Buy is kinda in my rear view mirror. Heck, I don't even think they have a CD section anymore, but I wasn't interested in walking the high tech/high dollar place to find out.....

Yeah....BB is just like bike stores now. Well, maybe a bit better. The geeks working in the stores seem to know their stuff but simply don't care.
Bike stores...they don't know the product and don't care either. CN

You're saying you bought a Speck Presidio Grip case and it sucked?
The one I have for an iPhone SE is great. CN
right. all the ones I bought before were great last one was for the 11. though sometimes the ribs peeled off. but this one for the 13pro sucked no grip at all all harder plastic no rubber grippy feel.

I just ordered the new Quad Lock mag case. Not sure if I should have picked the Mous case instead.

I’ve got an OtterBox for my iPhone. It’s super sturdy and has saved my phone a few times when it’s slipped out of my hands. I’m clumsy, so having a tough case is a must. The grip is nice, too, so it’s easier to hold onto. Plus, it’s got a slim profile, so it doesn’t feel too bulky in my pocket. I’ve heard people rave about other brands like Spigen, but OtterBox does the trick for me. If you’re looking for solid protection, I’d recommend checking it out! You can find iPhone cases in all styles, but I think the durability wins me over.

I made my own phone case for my last phone by coating it with silicone, being careful not to glue it shut so I could open it if I had to.
I molded it a bit to fit my hand so it was really Ergonomic. 😂
Everyone got a good laugh out of my trashy phone.

I spent the $50 on an OtterBox for my new phone. I stuck a couple strips of velcro on the backside to give it some gription so it doesn't slide out of my pocket.
I used a hot knife to melt some lines into the plastic where my thumb and fingers grab it to help me hold on to it better.

It's falsely advertised because Otters are waterproof and they float.
My phone case does neither. 😂

I suppose a box to built to house an Otter doesn't necessarily float or is waterproof?
I didn't look into properly built housing for Otters. 😂

I bought 2 Pelican IP68 Marine Waterproof Phone Pouch $24.60 or $12.30 ea on Ebay.
Guaranteed waterproof to 3 feet under. Fits smart phones. Has a hard loop with a lanyard to wrap around my belt so the phone will be in reach if I am knocked off the bike by a car; or fall in the ocean off a crab boat.
I cannot use the phone in the case but I lost the previous phone to rain inside a plastic bag in the pannier. Could not get that one dried out or repaired. Unlike a car, my bicycle leaks in the rain. I lost the phone # because Verizon sold the store phone business to Total and Total considers itself a different company. New phone # is posted on various employment sites and gets Maria daily offers to pick packages at warehouses for $15 an hour. $18 if she drives a forklift. $%^&*() I haven't worked since 2008 and was making $21 an hour then as a maintainer.

My mini13 has an Apple branded case that I found at a great discount. It simply wraps the phone on the sides and back. It's been dropped dozens of times. The case finally cracked so whom am I to try any other? Apple wanted $80 bucks for two cases I know to be excellent. Deep dive on amazon and 2 cost me $17. Same maker. Jeebus! I'm finding this more and more. The first prices that pop up can be 30-70% higher. Another WTF!

Apparently all phones in Japan are waterproof and always have been.
They take their phones into the shower with them.

North American phones aren't waterproof because we don't shower with them or drop them in the sink, and if we do, we get to buy a new phone because it was our fault that the phone got wet.

It's great for the economy.

IPhone models later than 12 (through 16) are waterproof to 6 meters depth for up to 30 minutes. So unless you take really long showers at terrifically high pressure they will do just fine in the shower.

Samsung Galaxies are not quite as water-resistant, but fine for taking with you into the shower.

I didn't know if my Galaxy A21 was water resistant but it's never been wet and I've only dropped it 2-3 times in the few years I've had it.

I don't get my e-bike wet either but I've been caught in the rain once and been on sloppy roads a few times.
I've dropped my e-bikes over 2 dozen times so far and over a dozen times on this particular day,.. 😂

This time the kickstand sunk in and it fell over,..

My opinion has always been that e-bikes that can't handle being wet are worthless jokes at any price. Normally you use an e-bike outside and unless you live in a very dry place like the Sahara Desert sometimes it is wet outside.

Even if you only ride when it isn't raining you can't control the weather, all you can do is avoid starting your ride when water is falling from the sky.

It is possible and bluntly not even very challenging to make an e-bike waterproof enough for foul-weather use. Lots of electromechanical components (like submersible pumps, which is a late-1920s technology) manage to have electric motors that run underwater.

I start trips in the rain. It rains 220 days a year here. If the bike wouldn't run in the rain I would have to buy a horse.

I remember that it was you that mentioned your throttle stopped working when it got completely soaked.

I had my first e-bike at the time with a new KT controller installed, but no PAS sensor hooked up, so I started carrying a spare throttle in my tool kit for rainy days.

I know that I've mentioned opening up my throttles and sealing the circuit boards, but I have yet to do that.

I keep a plastic bag and a vegetable tie in the pannier with the poncho and jacket. If there is not a sudden downpour, it mostly works to keep throttle working.

They sent the wrong one and no longer supply a label. Wrote to take to the nearest UPS store. It's 25 miles away! So there goes another hour getting a label from East Indian support staff. I typically hang up on every male agent. The women seem to work harder on their diction.
