I got to be doing something wrong.

The best people to answer that precisely will be the manufacturer of the bike.
Anyone without intimate knowledge of its programming will just be making assumptions.
Getting an answer out of Bafang regarding nearly anything is just going to turn into an exercise in frustration. You might try that someday prior to recommending other try. Those that have played with the UART based Bafang programming much will all have a pretty solid understanding - with no assumptions necessary.....

In this case I was referring to Bikonit as they are the ones who configured the bike

Despite what you might hear differently, I wouldn't put a lot of money on that bet. NOBODY (that I know of) is able to change anything CANbus, to include even the bike manf's.

IMHO, it's not going to stay like that, but that seems to be the deal at the moment. A MUCH safer bet would be there are some really smart people working on a solution.

I should mention I'm talking Ultra CANbus. I realize there are some making minor changes on the Bafang's 600's/smaller mid drives CANbus.
